Just noticed the Burnt Tongue location in Westdale under construction today. They've been working on the exterior for the last few weeks but I didn't know what it was. This is on King St W where Montfort used to be (beside CIBC).

I have heard from someone who would know that Rapscallion is planning to reopen on King William. Potentially on KW and John, once that corner building is fixed up?

I hear a new restaurant is going where Rapscallion used to be as well.

The waiter at Two Black Sheep told me they are combining the menus of TBS and Rapscallion at James and King William, possibly the William Thomas Residences?

I'm eagerly waiting for TBS to re-open in some form or another.

That's what I heard too. I'm thinking, either William Thomas building, John and KW or 10 James N between KW and King.

A bit of a crossover...

Small city.... Guess that is all about one's perspective... probably would of went with huge town... any event , nice profile for Synonym and a highlight on investment on James North (even if it did knock out an art gallery).

fantastic write-up….and yes, to a major Global design mag, we are totally a small city. Heck, within a 10-hour car drive we are considered a small city. Most cities crave growth and economic opportunity. Our competitors have been pulling away and leaving us in a lower weight class as we've stagnated and actually continue to see our lower city shrink. We're closing in on 50 years of our lower city losing population…making the city's NIMBY policies all the more baffling.

Synonym is prob my favourite coffee spot in the city. SO good!

Is our lower city really still shrinking? With all of the projects (condos and apartments. Students residences and influx of outsiders moving in) it feels like our lower city has been seeing a pop boom in the last 2 years

yep...no growth in the lower city. Next census will be over 50 years of steady loss...as I've always said, some cities are open and welcoming to business and investment. Others aren't.
The lower city has lost 11,000 people in the last 15 years.

Industria is opening at 69 John S, where Tailgate Charlies used to be.

seems to be an over-saturation of pasta and pizza joints in Hamilton. Not sure they'll all last.

Wish them the best though.

With Rad and Bread Bar now open at King/James, plus Frats and Industria close by (not to mention Born & Raised and other various places in the general vicinity) it does seem like we've reached peak pizza.

Union Chicken (https://unionchicken.com/) is also opening at King/James, right next to Bread Bar.

Ugh Hamilton's food scene is so bad. Burgers, bacon and pizza, does anyone go out to eat in this town other than ladies who lunch and 25 year old craft brewers?

Thought the food scene was doing okay, what are we missing from downtown, still more storefronts to convert. If done clever, the whole Hughson and King multiple developments could serve up prime patio space .
