As this form has a lot of people who know a lot about the Empire State Building I felt this was the correct place to ask for help. Recently for fun I was calculating the overall square footage of the some my famous skyscrapers in American History with enough information to be able to calculate the overall mass of skyscrapers. Some of the easier ones I calculated because of the easy build dimensions. Original 1 World Trade Center - 59,185,152 sq feet, Original 2 World Trade Center - 58,925,568 sq feet, Willis Tower - 53,572,500 sq feet. Recently I’ve been trying to calculate the overall square footage of the Empire State Building but have been stuck as I don’t know the build dimensions from of the Empire State Building between the 71st floor to the 89th floor. I’m unable to calculate square footage size accurately. But the Empire State Building is likely between 32,000,000 square feet - 34,000,000 square feet in size. These are the calculations I have so far. I would appreciate if anyone could help with finding the dimensions for the floors I could not find.
Floors (1-5) 424 feet x 187 feet x 73.5 feet
= 5,827,668 sq feet with deductions
Floors (6-20) 309.67 feet x 164.67 feet x 177.5 feet = 8,147,991 sq feet with deductions
Floors (21-24) 235 feet x 164.67 feet x 49.5 feet = 1,764,200 sq feet with deductions
Floors (25-29) 230.17 feet x 134.5 feet x 63 feet = 1,842,238 sq feet with deductions
Floors (30-71)
185.83 feet x 134.33 feet x 502.5 feet
= 11,518,849 sq feet with deductions
Empire State Building Floors 1-71
= 29,100,946 sq feet
Mast above 89th floor = 522,651 sq feet
The deductions I have written are the areas of the building that are smaller in certain parts of the floor due to the art deco design.
