Oh crap, that crown is absolutely horrible. I would rather them not put anything up there. What does everyone else think about it?

i think i'm in the minority here, but i kinda like it. the rsa is more angular and classic looking, and the riverview looks like its gonna be more funky and modern, but you can still easily tell they're sister buildings. i think they'll complement each other well...don't jump me, y'all, i'm still gonna wait for the two crowns to start before delivering my final verdict...

I like it too, if for no other reason than it will minimize the scale of the RSA tower relative the rest of the skyline. As it stands right now, it towers above all neighboring towers. With the Waterview crown, this will help to offset that a bit, even if its still shorter.

The crown doesn't look that bad - its the fact that the building looks like it will stay black and the crown will be glass and white. Looks like there's a little white trim to tie it in , however.

Either way, hell, they're spending $55MM on it - who are we to complain?

Agreed

The Riverview is currently 277 feet. The crown looks like it will add 100 ft or so, putting it between the AmSouth and RSA, so it will balance it out a bit.

I really like the crown on there. It adds a nice touch of change.

The Amsouth is 434 ft., so the crown on Riverview would have to be 150 ft. for it to be between Amsouth and RSA, but regardless, it will add some height to the overall skyline. I just wish it blended with the hotel a little more.

We all know the crown should have been 200 feet tall and rendered in festive Mardi Gras gold and purple. A rotating version of the Rennaisance logo should've sat pointedly atop the tip of the spire. The facade of the pre-existing building should've be cladded in variable message signs, similiar to the scheme the Union Planters Tower next to Bel Air Mall featured.

Just kidding.

About beating New Orleans for a tallest building... here's ours, rendering released yesterday. Go to this site and click on "portfolio" on the right. There, you'll see the Trump International Tower, at 70 stories. Enjoy!

Wow, what an impact Trump tower would make on the NO skyline! Do you think it will ever come to fruition? If it does, I would image the construction will be delayed for several years, depending on the recovery of the New Orleans market.

But you never know...if resorts along the coasts with minimal full-time populations can support 30-40 story condo towers, who's to say New Orleans can't with the tourism draw of the French Quarter and nearby attractions. There's no reason to think the tourism (at least in and arround the Quarter) won't return to pre-Katrina levels.

Trump will only add to what is already the South's greatest skyline. I imagine central New Orleans will be an area that will grow BECAUSE of the storm. Bienville knew something when the city was founded - the area along the river was the highest in the region - which is why the older parts of the city have been there (and will continue) to be there.

But the RSA is not bad for a marginal highrise skyline in a smaller city - especially one with little tourism to demand a condo market.

Wow - I guess that was pretty funny. Actually, yes, I'm in Miami and Atlanta nearly every month. So, I believe NOLA has the better skyline.

Its much denser, and has a wider variety of low, mid, and highrise buildings with historical character that Miami and Atlanta can't touch.

pkp, you fool.

New Orleans can't compare to the might that is Atlanta. Hell, sometimes Atlanta can't even compete with itself... it's really that good.

Now that I think of it, yes, yes, Atlanta does have a better skyline than NOLA. Let's take it a step further - Manhattan has nothing on ATL's skyline, either. And Miami, watch out Chicago, you've got nothing on this one.

Your 100 + years of building highrise buildings can't compare with our construction since 1985.

Chrsyler Building? So what - ever heard of Atlantic Station?

Your timeless design can't compete with our easy interstate access!

I laugh in the face of these old "cities" and there crumbling old buildings!

In reality - I'll go a step further. New Orleans had a great skyline BEFORE anyone even thought of slapping some railroad tracks down in NW Georgia - or building a beach resort in S Florida. A few glassy highrises don't make a skyline or a city. Its always been great and is, at least for now, without comparisson in the South.

"Now, Trump's organization says it wants to go ahead with the tower. Allen Levin, president of Island Resorts Development Inc., of Pensacola, Fla., who is teaming with Mr. Trump to build the tower, said he remains committed to the project, though it might be delayed. “The Trump tower would be a $200 million bet on the future of big business in New Orleans since it would rise in the downtown central-business district, ”to 70 stories”

"We have no doubt we are going to do it," Mr. Levin said, adding that construction probably wouldn't start for about 2½ years. Mr. Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., also agreed. "We still intend on going forward," he said. "We are in no way abandoning the city. When the time is right, we will be there."

See article..here

BTW, I really like Mobile's new tower. It'll be a great addition.
