Won't it supply greener, centralized heating to whatever replaces the feds at Tunney's?

Other cities are starting to do similar systems not just as government project. For instance, in Halifax the new Queen's Marque has additional capacity so other buildings can tap into it.

Just looks like a bunker now, but it will be a great addition to Tunney's once complete. Love to see these highly functional/utilitarian buildings be designed in a way that adds benefits to the general population with the addition of public realm elements.

I do not understand this project. Specifically, the part where they have to connect the Hill plant with the Tunney's plant with these massive pipes. Years of digging, hundreds of millions of dollars, disruptions for all modes of transportation, destroyed trees and habitat along the way, pipe bursts and complications for potential construction projects in the future. For what? You can boil that water on either end.

Public spaces and plants overhauls are great, but linking them together feels like greenwashing.

While I think the shiny mirror chimneys would have looked kinda cool, I think this cladding looks nice and sleek as well. I have no issues with it.

How far along is the rest of the building? I'm excited to see how the green roof landscaping will look as it nears completion.

It was probably planned well before the drop in commuters, but feels like it would have been far less disruptive if they had routed it under the road the whole way (except at bridges). Not quite sure what is going to happen with the crossing at the mup bridge, guess another long term disruption to the river pathway.

i found diagram from 2018 that would suggest at one point it was planned for sub-roadway. since they included pipe diameters i assume there was some engineer behind this. also, a branch headed to 900 Albert here. there's a gladstone village diagram out there somewhere with a district energy connection mockup as well if i recall correctly

Looks like the original designer was hydro and replaced by an electrician lol

What are the implications of routing steam/water/whatever around all those 90 degree bends?

I agree though, the government is lately OBSESSED with having duplicate and triplicate sources of heating and cooling using this hot water method, at any cost. Granted, it's pretty important to continue heating downtown if/when the brand new downtown plant has a failure.
