I like how these buildings look so different than any of the other buildings in Whalley

I like the re-design and may explain why this project has been delayed. The 35 storey tower may still be the same. Looks like they also envision a similarly height tower across the street to frame a gateway heading south toward downtown.

Interesting.. so they have 2 applications on the go now on either side of King George Blvd.
  • Application 20-0018 on one of the lots created under their previously approved application for Whalley District. They are applying for a "major amendment" to the previously approved DP to include office as a principle use. This site is not one of the tall iconic towers shown. It is the shorter tower on the far left in the image.
  • Application 19-0367 on the Whalley Station strip mall site on the west side of King George - which will contain one of the tall iconic towers shown, along with some lower-rise office it looks.

The 2nd tall iconic tower on the flamingo site will be subject to a future DP application, within the subdivision created under the previous Whalley District application, as there is no current application on that site.

Thanks Shift!
It makes sense if they start with the side closer to Gateway Station to get some critical mass going, then expand to the east side of KGB.

It seems like this company has been proposing stuff here for over a decade. I'll believe it when a crane goes up

The two taller towers seem to be between 50 and 60 floors.

Would be nice to see them actually happen.

Will believe it when I see it!

Agreed. Seems like they are struggling with what to do and keep changing their mind.

I think the tower would look a lot better if the floors were a full circle. I know this wouldn't happen but it would be crazy if a bridge concerted the two towers.

I counted 51 floors minus the cone portion. With the cone portion added around 59-61 floors.

Heres a bigger pic. So apparently this project below is called "Whalley Station" and the 3 towers in the older render will be called "Flamingo Towers". The taller of the two Whalley Station towers is 51 floors.

Something like this I'm picturing??

Looks way too good. These towers would make for a great gateway entrance into Surrey.

Nice scale and plaza at the corner of King George & 108 (called for in the City Centre Plan). Mixed feelings with the towers. I think they need some refinement (and will likely get it through the application process / ADP).

I like the circular form, and pillars at the base of the tallest tower extending up from the 'moat'. Similar to the Palisades on Alberni street. The break 3/4 of the way up with the inset floors, exposed columns, and greenery is nice. I don't like the crowns.

The large vertical light columns in the plaza create a strong sense of place and anchor the tallest tower to that key 'gateway' corner.

Would be nice if the office component were a bit larger / taller here.

Anyone know if the architect is still Chris Dikeakos?

If they went with a office portion similar sized to the Coast Capital HQ this corner would look insanely good.

Thanks for the renders!

Plazas are a nice size, but grass is unrealistic.
Agreed with the crowns. They look too bulky compared to the open grid of the wraparound balconies. It makes them look top heavy.
The crowns would look better if they were an open grid of beams and columns - maybe with mesh to deter birds.

Lol, with all the new development proposals coming online, no one is putting down Surrey lately. Keep up the proposals, and I mean up as in tall! We really need the momentum going on there.

Whalley Station towers are really cool, but again there is just too much plaza/landscaping space on the ground. Should have more sttructures built right up to the street sidewalks. There should also be an underground mall linking the building plazas of the two iconic towers, and preferably an indoor gallery linking all present and future buildings that goes all the way to Gateway Station.

The name of the development also implies that there will be some kind of train station nearby: perhaps the future Portland-Seattle-Surrey HST terminal building? Way too excited to even think about this.

I see this development to be at a very important junction for the future public transportation development of Surrey. Since Guildford is another higher-density town centre, Gateway Station could become a transfer point should there be a future LRT/tram line going towards Guildford.

I see a straight line as a more logical idea - and Guildford Mall / bus loop is on 104th. That's why the LRT plan was for 104th and not 108th / Gateway Station.

I like these renderings, but didn’t we have a serious conversation about this developer—on these very pages—a few years ago, acknowledging that this developer may not be the most trustworthy in terms of what he is promising and what he plans to deliver.

Things go so slow in Surrey. I wonder how long it will take to get all 5 towers built. And these towers don't look like they meet the sidewalk very well. I would rather see mid-rises here,as they tend to look better/create a better pedestrian realm.

Surrey City Centre has no real retail street to build a neighbourhood around so they should put extra effort into the street level architecture. They won't of course, though these awful towers will be marketed as "Yaletown in Whalley!", or some bullshit like that.
