Which is what I would like to see. Central Park, if it has any tributes should be to historical figures of Edmonton including aboriginals that built this city or settled here. I have no issues with acknowledging actors, playwrights, musicians but in a more appropriate place. Like naming a theatre or performance space on Whyte Ave that links the persons achievements in the arts to a continuum of what they are known for. But a Central Park should not pander to fads.

I have no idea what's going on. I'm guessing the park has been delayed due to COVID but should be ramping up again in the new year.

I had also heard design competition to start soon-ish, this year for sure. I have not been provided an update on construction schedule.

Three years from start of design comp to construction isn't terrible, but I too would want it all done earlier (I hear the delays are due to negotiations to purchase more lots).

Doing it right the first time is important and it is a legacy level project for the area, but here's hoping that time is of the essence.

Disappointed it continues to drag out and you are right, it needs to be done not just right, but exceptional given it is a legacy project. We do not need a Blatchford competition style where it is a complete 180 from the competition or Library style in which the end product does not equal the promise. I truly hope this isnt Edmontonized like we have seen before but is an exceptionally enjoyable project for many years to come and many people.

So far, I think Vancouver holds the record amount of time for construction of a park. Land was set aside in the early 90s for a site at Smithe and Richards, and snail-pace construction just commenced in the last year or so. And construction still continues. By the time it's done, it'll be 20 years from when the site was designated.

Pray, and I mean PRAY, that Edmonton doesn't take that as a challenge and make your park a multi-generational exercise.

Awesome, and thanks! Seems like ages ago (probably was). That's usually what takes the longest time, as per the above mentioned Vancouver park.

I'm really concerned about the design of this park and hope a holistic design, maintenance and winter in mind. Greisbach Park and Alex Decoteau have shown promise.
