its been mentioned in the article above but just a heads up...
night of June 21 the second piece of the intermediate tower installed
night of July 5 the third piece of the intermediate tower installed (final major piece of this tower)

looks like there is still quite a bit of work to be done on the upper terminal considering its supposed to be done by the end of july according to the timeline which assumes a december opening and last i heard is still the plan

All I've got to say is wow, I really had no idea of the scale of the tower. It's huge like a space age monalith. Incredible. The models just made it look like a ski lift tower.

Is there a tower inbetween theses two or does the wire go directly from the top to the bottom tower and then landing? Looks like a long way.

cab - no there isn't - that is what is going to make this one hell of a ride. the 3-minute ride will slow down at the guide tower before it makes the final descent to the lower station. in the end the top of the guide tower will match the top of the OHSU building, so you can see what a steep descent awaits.

I know someone working up by the station... I am not visiting him. Ever.

When you're on the road below that intermediate tower, that thing looks AWESOME. I actually think they should build more monolith-like things such as this around town simply because it looks pretty damn great.

Great shots pdx streetcar. I especially like the first.

I think this very well could be Portland's postcard, but not static like the St Louis arch or the Eiffel tower. This is a kinetic postcard that one will experience in three dimensions. Awesome!

I went down there tonight and it was quite a surreal scene.

Lots of workers milling around, Sam Adams snapping photos, a gaggle of citizens, news media down on Moody, even the infamous bike and public transit hater Jim Karlock with a video camera.

I sat on my bike for awhile up on Macadam just north of the site and eventually a very friendly and informative PDOT guy came over and explained to me that they were running behind and it would be several hours (possibly 2am) before they installed the second part of the tower because the Thompson people had forgotten the specialized attachments that they needed to attach the tower piece to the crane hooks and thus hoist it up. They had sent some folks back up to Vancouver to grab them. I was imagining Karlock doing calculations in his head as to the additional cost this would incur to the project...

I then went and checked out the Meriweather and ran into the same security guard I saw last time. This time he threatened to call the police on me after I told him that I was "just visiting a friend" as I rode by him and then was clearly loitering in front of the towers (trying to imagine how all that concrete was going to look in 10 years) for a few minutes. Go figure.

Icing on the cake: on my way back by the tram site, Karlock was driving off in his big old belching 1970's GAS GUZZLING beater and actually yelled "lights!!" at me before realizing that I did indeed have a blinking back light on my bike. He really does look in person just as old and crotchety as you might imagine from his endless and ever-redundant comments on local blogs like PDXTransport and Sam's. If you don't know who the guy is (and you care) do a google search. Know thy enemy, right?

Jim "autophile extraordinaire" Karlock:

Unfortunately, I left my camera at home.

^no way, that can't be Jim Karlock???

This mother fucker has been arguing with me on Sam Adams blog about being a member of the 'creative class' and how I'm not, as a young college student...What a fucker....who knew he was an old turd?

Tram tower looks good!
