SSP Ottawa petition to revoke the 'architectural license' of RLA? What even is this?!? These people are almost single-handedly (along with NEUF) creating a new architectural style that should go down with commie-block brutalism as the worst style in history....

This barely does it for me. I don’t think it even does. Would’ve been nice if the whole building was like the top 3 floors.

Jokes aside I could actually get behind a more concerted effort to publicly shame RLA for the shame they bring to our skyline. If we keep all of our gripes to this forum they probably just feel like they can keep getting away with it.

The tower portion, once complete, I think will look good. High quality safe design. I'll settle for a variety of designs along Scott street, even if they are all safe. In any case, this is far superior than the McRae tower across the street.
I agree. Well said.

That tower portion is OK while that podium is butt ugly and not cohesive at all. Like why? Again, I would take plain over messy and disjointed designs any day.

I kind of like it. Podium colour doesn't go with the tower. Red brick, or even, dare I say, charcoal or dark grey, would have been better. The sloped feature is not as prominent as the renderings suggested (though we'll wait to see the final product) but overall, it's pretty decent IMO, at least the tower portion, especially when compared to its neighbours.

Photos from today. About 3/4 of the glass on the top floors is installed, one side looks fully done. (This is also me testing whether I know how to post photos)

1960 Scott really does look like a 60's commie block that was recently painted in an ugly fashion.

I think a red brick podium would have been better, but maybe it's a good thing it's not white or charcoal.

I don't mind tower but it is really screaming for a more interesting roofline. Even just something to better frame/accent the top. Calgary has so many more interesting condo toppers IMO. A couple examples:

They could have given it a bit more space to breath, but if this is enough, it's enough.

Roof feature is not quite as prominent as I had hoped. Overall, decent project.

I don't mind the tower portion. I dislike the baby poo coloured podium and absolutely despise the charcoal brick low-rise section forming a canyon along with the monstrosity across the street.

I suspect we will find that 320 McRae is within 3m +/- on the next update.
This one is 4 floors taller. How can they be virtually the same height?

I know, it doesn't make sense at all, but go have a look see. From the ground they look very very close. I'll go up the construction lift at 320 McRae next week and see what the deal is exactly, as we are still finishing work on the building.

edit: This one is actually only one floor more, 1960 Scott is in fact 25 stories, not 22. It all makes sense now. I suspect this one may come in at 83-84m with the mechanical penthouse, but we'll see.

In Ottawa, there's definitely worst, there's also better. To me, it looks pretty quality but the design is boring and very disjointed (between the charcoal, the sandy podium and the white tower).
