Will be even more impressive with new Brackenridge (Merck?) towers clustered right next door.

Say what you want about the design, but that video was pretty great. More than most renderings, that really gives you an idea of how the building will look from all angles and distances. I think that gives a great addition to that part of austin, which has been historically crappy.

That truly was a great video. Seeing the tower from different views is helpful to see how it will fit in, and this did seem better than other renderings.

My favorite part (sarcasm alert) was at 0:16 or so where it said "Easy Access to I-35" and the video showed traffic crawling along, bumper to bumper, haha...welcome to Austin.

Having something new, tall, and shiny north of the Capital building is long overdue and will spread the skyline northward. I'm liking this one, even in its current rendering. Looking forward to a new highrise cluster in that area.

This blank wall faces I35:

Maybe we can get a local artist to paint a colorful mural:

That image of him looks like a clip from Rocky. I have "Eye of the Tiger" in my head now.

Anyway, the blank wall facing I-35 isn't that big of a deal since I'm assuming the block east of it will be redeveloped. It's occupied by a building that houses the Texas Municipal Retirement System. There's also that small electrical substation north of that building. Does anyone know if that is only there for Brackenridge, or if it's for a larger area of downtown? Anyone know if that planned to be removed once Brack is redeveloped?

Here are some more screen shots from the Vimeo video:

Imagine the seven Brackenridge towers and the 11th & Sabine residential tower clustered around it in this view:

Man, the views from this thing are going to be amazing. The Capitol, UT Tower and of course, downtown. And it's going to be tall, too. It'll be the tallest building in Austin north of 7th Street, a distance of 5 blocks north of the next taller one. You can see how far away it'll be from the One American Center in those images, which is the next taller building. This thing is really going to stand out.

Views that will mostly be protected, too, due to the vastness of neighboring capitol view corridors.

Yeah, hopefully someone doesn't try to push through one more CVC for the purpose of killing this project...

There hasn't been much news about this project lately. But there was a big update to the site plan Tuesday. I think this one is close to being approved.

It appears this project has lost a little height. The elevations for an upcoming AULCC meeting show the height as 357', and the highest occupied floor looks to be 30. It has always been unclear if the condo levels would be included or not, and they are not in this version. But the roof top restaurant on level 33 is still in the plans.

I care more about height south of the capitol. If we lose a little height in this area but have increased density and pedestrian activity (hopefully leading to more street interaction with more projects), I'm good with that.

Yeah, I saw this. I meant to post it. I forgot about the restaurant level up there. I hope they hang onto it.

I don't think this has been mentioned yet. But according to the AULCC documents for this week's meeting the groundbreaking is planned for December.

From where are they getting this 371' height?
