Pic by me Monday.

Installation of a new HVAC tower at Scotia Tower
- presumably to replace the exhaust that vents towards the parkade area that will be butted up against by the new tower

The tenants of the offices to the left must be pissed off...

Pic by me today -

Huge steel caissons - nor sure what for as the site would be on bedrock.
They look much wider diameter than braces used to shore up the corners of excavations.

Perhaps because of adjoining structures, particularly the office building to the south?

Could be - I was wondering that too.
Or maybe Scotia Tower side if they've had to remove a wall?

Well since the south side is more cleared out I'll guess it's for that side

Pic by me last night.

Looks like they breached the wall of the underground garage of the neighbouring
Vancouver House office building (the original building with that name).
No hole is visible at the bottom of the Vancouver House parking ramp, so must be on the level below.
As far as I know, they are not planning on sharing the Vancouver House parking ramp.

Pics by me today (Aug 12th).

Looks like cutter heads for pilings.
According to the website, there are supposed to be 7 levels of underground parking.

Just caught part of the piling on the left of this shot:

There's lots of rebar poking from those caissons now.

Anyone know the reason for this construction method?
(as far as I know, they still have to excavate (around the caissons?) for underground parking)

If this P6 floorplan is still accurate, it looked like the caissons are for columns C1 and C2 (which run all the way up the tower) on this plan:

I was thinking that they may be doing it so they can accelerate that portion
of the building to build a platform to the Scotia Tower podium,
onto which they could place their construction work trailers.

Thanks!

Yeah, looks like the columns may line up with the sawed-off beams from the podium of Scotia Tower
- so I could see them used as supports for new beams to connect to the sawed-off beams.
