Not really though, but I'd be very pissed.

Caught!

Man Arrested for Random Stabbing

Quote:
Police have made an arrest in connection with that stabbing on Frecker Drive in St John's Thursday. A 22-year-old man was arrested Saturday without incident and has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. He is being held in custody for a court appearance today.

The 37-year-old victim suffered serious injuries when he was stabbed by an assailant who fled on foot as he walked along Frecker Drive in St. John's. His injuries are considered to be non-life threatening but he remains in hospital. RNC say it doesn't appear the victim and the accused were known to each other.

The RNC has recovered what is believed to be the weapon used in the crime and Constable Talia Murphy says they do not believe the stabbing is in any way connected to the fire bombing and drive-by shooting last Friday. The investigation is continuing and police are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information connected with it to please come forward.

My friend's parents live in the house that was involved in the shooting, so I was pretty shocked to hear about it when it happened. I'm really glad everyone is okay.

Apparently it's very common for drive-bys to target the wrong house. It could be caused by somebody giving the wrong house number of the target, etc.

haha I lol'ed when Shannie asked people not to take/buy drugs in her interview on OnPoint. I quickly caught a glimpse of her over-bearing grandmother side. Nevertheless... <3 Shannie.

And 107km/h? I would be pissed if I was ticketed at 120km/h on the ORR... I thought it was a limitless Autobahn until this very moment...

That's pretty much how everyone else treats the highway. The posted speed limit is 100 km/h, I usually go between 115 and 120 km/h on the highway and am constantly being passed by faster moving traffic.

haha we have the same Mom? Oh...

And I maintain that drivers on the ORR are actually under the belief that it's a race... You can go 150km/h and there will still be some dude in his pick-up flying past you at 155km/h.

The worst I've ever seen was a BMW a few years ago. I was going a little faster than usual (driving back from Burin Pen. and was dying to piss ...probably going around 130), just passed the cloverleaf for Pitts Memorial Drive when I see the BMW flying down the ramp from Pitts Memorial. Car was going so fast that I immediately lost it in my mirror until I felt it zoom past in the left lane. Cut back across me and zoomed off and took the Kenmount Road off ramp. The car had to be doing at least 180, maybe even more. Insane. I honestly was going to call in a reckless driver complaint but I couldn't see the plate number.

Arrests Made in Outlawed Gang Activity

Two men have been arrested on charges of assault and uttering threats related to what police are calling outlawed motorcycle gang activity. VOCM's Lacy O'Connell reports live from RNC Headquarters in St. John's.

Constable Talia Murphy says the two men are 32 and 50-years-old, respectively. The former is charged with four counts of common assault and three counts of uttering threats. The latter is charged with four counts of assault and one count of uttering threats. Both men were arrested around three pm at the corner of Duckworth Street and Bates Hill.

When asked if the arrests are related to the shooting on Dauntless Street in Kenmount Terrace a few weeks ago, Cst. Murphy said they have been arrested for violence downtown between March and May of this year. The police aren't saying much, as the investigation is ongoing, but they say they called in the RCMP after discovering that the gang activity reaches beyond RNC jurisdiction.

The RNC held a news conference this afternoon. RNC Constable Talia Murphy says it's too early to say if there will be any more arrests.

Constable Murphy was not able to indicate the full extent of the ongoing investigation.

It's been a quiet period in the city, but apparently the quiet St. John's of years ago is no more.

St. John's Fourth Highest Crime Rate in Country

While crime rates across the country are at their lowest levels in over 40 years, St. John's is showing one of the highest crime rates among the country's metropolitan centres. That's according to Statistics Canada which shows St. John's with a crime rate of 7,056 per 100,000 people, down 3 per cent from 2011.

The crime rate in the capital city exceeds other large centres including Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal, and even Toronto, which has the lowest crime rate in the country. St. John's comes in fourth in the country, behind only Kelowna, Regina, and Saskatoon.

Here is a list of crime rates for the country's census metropolitan areas, from highest rate to lowest, per 100,000 population, with percentage change from 2011 in brackets.

Really though Also, that Ultramar has been held up 4 times this year. I was there buying beer a few nights ago, they should probably consider a buzz-in system there.

Metro Armed Robberies Unrelated: RNC

Police say they don't have any information at the moment to suggest that two armed robberies in St. John's that happened about an hour apart are connected. VOCM's Lynn Robinson reports.

Two men, armed with knives, held up Needs Convenience on Topsail shortly after 10 p.m. RNC say they stole cash and cigarettes and fled on foot and there were no injuries. The first man is described as Middle Eastern, about 5'9", 160 pounds, with a grey hoodie with beige fur on the hood and sunglasses on his head. Constable Talia Murphy says he had a pointed chin and pronounced cheek bones, dark hair, thick dark eyebrows, and was wearing blue jeans. The second man is Caucasian, about 5'9" tall and 160 lbs. He was wearing a blue hoodie, baseball cap on backwards and dark blue jeans.

Murphy says there were no injuries in the second robbery that happened at Ultramar at the corner of Elizabeth Avenue and Torbay Road just before 11:30 p.m.. Two men held up the gas station and one of the suspects had a knife. They fled the store with cash, cigarettes, and lotto tickets.

The first suspect is described as between 5'7" to 5'8" tall, about 160 pounds with a tanned complexion. He was wearing a grey hoodie, and a bandana over his face. The second man is between 5'6" to 5'8" tall, about 160 pounds and was wearing a black hoodie, bandana on his face and had a red duffel bag

Anyone with information on the suspects in the robberies is asked to call RNC or Crime Stoppers.

RNC seek help identifying armed robbery suspects

The RNC is asking the public to help identify those responsible for an armed robbery at The Prescription Shoppe on Elizabeth Avenue in St. John’s on Monday.

About 4:30 p.m. RNC officers responded to a report that two male suspects entered the store and demanded narcotics before fleeing the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of prescription medication.
There were no injuries during the incident.

The RNC is concerned about the items stolen and consider their potential availability on the street to be a public safety concern.

Both males had their faces concealed with a cloth material during the incident.

The first male suspect was described as wearing a white jacket or hoodie and had an average build. The second male suspect was described as wearing a grey fleece or hoodie and also had an average build.

Anyone who has information that would assist in identifying those responsible or anyone who may have any information in relation to this crime is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.

Content in this story has been edited to correct the name of the store targeted in the robbery.

I'm surprised no one posted the big gay bashing story,
which apparently has been all over the media.

Two More Armed Robberies

Two more armed robberies on the northern Avalon, one at Marie's Mini-Mart on Torbay Road shortly after 9 last night when a lone, masked bandit got away with cash and cigarettes.

The second robbery occurred at the Villa Nova Pharmacy in CBS about 7:30 last night. Two masked, armed men entered the store demanding narcotics. They fled on foot, empty handed, but police believe there was a getaway vehicle nearby. An employee who confronted the bandits suffered minor injuries in the incident.

There have been no arrests yet in either case.

Oh, we've heard about it; we've heard all the different versions of the story. Most of the media is just running with it, but CBC has at least taken a skeptical tone and pointed out some of the many inconsistencies in the story - up to and including injuries apparently changing places/disappearing between pictures/videos.
