That works too. Though I'm rooting for McDougall Hill partly for selfish reasons because then I can watch from my balcony!

Yup my thoughts as well. but straight down Shaw using the remaining terraces then into LMP.

Another event that I heard about was the Canadian Cycle Cross Championships. This year and Next are at the Forks in Winnipeg. This would be held in late October. The site being looked at is in the Goldbar Park Capilano Park area. I mentioned that Kinsmen would be a better location and maybe LMP.

There would be a beer garden involved.

You better not cry, you better not pout: Santa Claus indoor mall parade cancelled
Outdoor parade a possibility next year
http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/edmo...s+indoor+mall+parade/10413925/story.html

Quote:
Saying that interest in the holiday procession was dwindling, the city’s Downtown Business Association quietly scuttled the event after last year’s 26th installation.

“Some things just get past their time, and we finally reached that point,” Jim Taylor, executive director of the downtown business group, said Tuesday evening. “Participation had been fading for the last three years and we finally came to the conclusion that it wasn’t going to be feasible anymore.

“The parade was very labour-intensive and expensive to put on and it had got hard to get new entries. What happened is pretty simple. It was a combination of things.”
Quote:
The association is mulling the possibility of replacing the event with an outdoor parade perhaps as early as next year. It has been studying the cost and logistics involved with Toronto’s annual Santa Claus Parade, and Vancouver’s similar holiday fete. Both are only able to take place with the backing of major corporate sponsors.

“We haven’t abandoned the idea of seeing an outdoor parade,” Taylor said. “We think it may be feasible, but there was no way possible that we could do it this year. But that very well may be a better fit.”

Combine it with a larger light the tree event a week later into Nov.... but less parade, more celebration.

So awesome!

Skiing to work becomes an option for south-side residents

BY ELISE STOLTE, EDMONTON JOURNAL D

EDMONTON - A new group of neighbourhood ski enthusiasts in the south is about to score its first big win — a 10-pair locking ski rack at the Century Park LRT station.

The custom welding is done. They’re just waiting for a few more pieces in the mail and the rack will be available to let southsiders ski on their commute or go shopping one stop north at Southgate Centre.

It means freedom, regular exercise and a chance to avoid the mad scramble to get a parking stall at Century Park before it fills up at 7:05 each weekday morning, said co-founder Michelle Jehn, a provincial employee who bikes to the LRT twice a week during the summer.

“All of a sudden winter comes and I have to put the bike away. This is great. This is a great idea,” said Jehn. The one-year old informal crew organized through social media designed the rack themselves and built it with a $1,000-grant from the area community leagues.

^^ Is it just me or are there more conferences and meetings on winter city strategies in this city than actual things to do in the winter?
