There's a lot of cranes that way when seen driving over the Cambie bridge. I suppose the project name excludes or from the neighborhood, but I'm assuming the nearby massive Wall Strathcona Village on Hastings is underway now or soon as well.

The crane on 138 E Hastings is actually green and pretty flimsy looking. The one on 188 Keefer St is yellow and much taller.

Strathcona Village is not underway yet, I pass there every day.

Driving over the viaduct - it looks like Keefer Block is topped out.

A mural has been installed in the alley at 161 East Pender St - seems kinda jumbled and cluttered:

Four cranes up in Chinatown is quite a sight. I hadn't even noticed before, but today it caught my attention. Looking good.

Thanks for the update. I'm interested how the feel of the area will change over the next decade and Strathcona Village might be to Chinatown what Woodwards was to Gastown, an anchor of normal people to bring life to the sidewalks.

Hastings east of the railyards has certainly come around and is usurping Commerical Drive, I think.

I think Strathcona Village is just the tip of the iceberg for the Hastings Corridor. The stretch of Hastings from Heatly to Semlin is mostly industrial, which is easier to redevelop. My armchair urban planner calculations say around 6000 new residents will be living on E. Hastings. That should provide a pretty good anchor for the east side of Chinatown and Hastings/Oppenheimer.

I too envision E. Hastings as having a Commercial Dr. type vibe. The social housing isn't going anywhere and there are 3500 hundred privately owned SRO's that will be upgraded to accommodate young people or whoever, so there will be a good mix. A more urbanized Commercial Dr. I would say. It won't be anything like Yaletown. Then there's Pender street...

From Changing City Updates - a James Schouw project at 137 Keefer St.
Edit - I think the beige blocks are supposed to represent the existing adjacent buildings.

Quote:
We had noticed some site cleanup on a 25 foot lot on Keefer Street (to the east of the heritage building with the Keefer bar). Now we know what’s proposed to go there – “To develop a nine-storey, multiple-family dwelling building with a commercial retail unit on the main floor, providing 19 parking spaces over four levels (via automated parking system) having vehicular access from the lane”.

Love the scale they are building Chinatown out at, this one could be quite nice if executed properly.

Is this a new project next to Ginger?

It looks like 16 storeys and it completely fills out that corner!

^ yes so good to see. That corner looked so run down and dumpy

The top part looks like it was tacked on. It would be nice if the red brick corner just went all the way up
