They have that kinda stuff all over Singapore, it works great.

That said I doubt we will see it in Vancouver simply because of the aversion to road expansion/intensification.

There are many examples of this in Madrid and it works really well.

Overpass from SOLO to Brentwood

As a matter of fact, I recall reading on the City of Burnaby site that a future east-west overpass over Willingdon Ave, south of Lougheed Hwy from Solo District to the Brentwood Station will one day be built to accommodate future pedestrian traffic. I'm unable to find that page, though.

Exclamation Brentwood Station Bus Loop Closure

I think the TransLink detractors might have accidentally been given some fodder over the next few weeks...

The reason? Brentwood Station's bus loop is being dismantled for the mall owners as of the 16th, and the buses are being distributed all over the place.

Two of them now start/terminate directly under the station overpass, while the others remain closer to the original exchange (albeit on street, of course).

And of course, it's easy to see what might happen next on Facebook. e.g.
"ASDFASDF TRANSLINK MADE ME 15 MINUTES LATE FOR WORK/UBC BECAUSE THEY STUPIDLY CHOPPED THE BUS LOOP IN TWO!"

(Correction to above: It's not entirely TransLink's fault if they were leasing land or right of way from the mall developers and if Burnaby never provided a replacement spot for the loop when they okayed the redevelopment.)

It was always part of the Brentwood redevelopment that the bus stops would redistribute to the streets - that's nothing new.

I used to live near Brentwood and wished the bus stops were on the road when I lived there... that bus loop is annoying

Bus pads were recently poured on Halifax near the corner of Wellington.

Overpass from Solo to Brentwood Station

An overpass has been mentioned in one of the City of Burnaby reports dating back to 2011 August 29.

https://burnaby.civicweb.net/Documen....aspx?ID=11814

In the report the City requires the developer of Solo District to ensure space "...for a landing for a possible future pedestrian overpass of Willingdon Avenue..." (page 20 of the above report in the above link).

The rezoning application for the first phase was discussed tonight at a public meeting:

I hope they get approval soon. will be nice to get that project underway to start the transformation of that old mall. The buses are now being rerouted and looks like their corner signage is now up.

Have the towers gone from 70 to 60, now down to 53 storeys?

Brentwood mall coughs up another $5 million to city coffers

Brentwood Town Centre's first highrise tower is putting another $5 million in the city's hands.

Within the mall's first phase of development is another rezoning application to allow for a 53-storey residential tower above a commercial podium. City council approved an estimated $5.2 million cash-in-lieu contribution from the density bonus at its Jan. 13 meeting.

...

The proposed tower will add about 591 units, and 300 of those are being considered for purpose built market rental units.

Lou Pelletier, director of planning and building, expects a future report regarding the 53-storey tower in the back portion of the Brentwood mall lot to come forward in 2014, which will set a public hearing date.

The one at the corner of Halifax and Willingdon has. The other tower will require its own rezoning application, so it may be a different height than the first.

How tall is the commercial podium? It looks to be of substantial height so throwing an additional 53 stories on top could still be the equivalent of a 60 story residential tower.

Since when are the towers 53 stories, and primarily rentals?

But then take out floor 13, every floor with the number 4 in it, and what ever other floors they decide to arbitrarily omit, and you are left with a 40 floor tower, (yes I'm exaggerating, but you get the idea) that they will still market as being 60 floors.

I thought there had been a height reduction at first, but given the way the project is described in this CDC report (page 5), what you say makes more sense.
Quote:
The first phase of development under the Brentwood Master Plan is comprised of three separate
rezoning applications within the eight acre area; Rezoning Reference #12-44 for the commercial
podium, underground parking and central civic plaza component; Rezoning Reference #12-45 for the
first residential tower at the southeast corner of Halifax Street and Willingdon A venue; and Rezoning
Reference # 12-46 for the second residential tower at the northwest corner of Alpha Avenue and
Lougheed Highway (see attached Sketch #1). The subject rezoning application for the first
residential tower consists of a single high-rise apartment tower, 53 storeys in height above the
commercial podium.

Back page ad in Metro News today.

I'll be surprised if when finished the plaza really looks like that. Can't wait to hear some official heights and renderings of the residential towers.

I'm not a huge fan of the branding being used for this project thus far. Even the logo is dumb.
