I like the renos of the old brick buildings in Montreal and Toronto. They look great now, I like the brick work.

Where you see bland, I see refined. Also, one has to take into account that this reclad was meant to bring that old 70's horror cube to mesh elegantly with the newer towers of Concordia. It's a total success.

Wow! I remember that building from when I was studying at Laval. The new cladding is very unique, but it's too bad they turned it into a pretty plain box...the old massing was kind of monumental, really set it apart from other bland suburban lowrises.

Still very little progress at TD Place.

The adjacent Fortis Building (not to be confused with Fortis Place, one of our major U/C projects) will also be reclad. It was the very first office building in downtown St. John's so it's about time it got a facelift.

There is no scheduled date as of now, at least not publicly. All we know is they say it will begin after the completion of Fortis Place, which is scheduled to be completed this fall or next spring. They also said "sometime after 2012", but at this point, that's kind of obvious

So I imagine it will start somewhere between this fall (2013), or next fall (2014). (but depending on how long it takes them to begin after Fortis Place is completed, I would put the latest start date at spring 2015.)

So we still have some waiting to do yet..

Townie is correct.

Also, we have an acute labour shortage in Newfoundland for this type of work. The media has run stories this week about bringing in workers from St-Pierre and La Francophonie as well as Ireland.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Fortis simply doesn't have the people to finish TD Place (it owns that building as well) and start the Fortis Building reclad until the construction of Fortis Place is finished.

(Who knew you could write such a sentence that isn't about Irving?).

I like the finished product as well. It looks... not like a reclad at all.
