I hear you. We live in Yaletown but still do our weekly grocery run to Safeway with car.

Article discussing the logistics centre (I'm pretty sure it's part of this whole development). Interesting to see up to 1.2 million sqft of warehouse space

Still no list of stores...

Opening October 6th, 2016.

Note that a Saks Off 5th has been announced for CrossIron Mills (Calgary).

Quote:
...

Following Tait’s presentation, Tsawwassen Mills general manager Mark Fenwick described the project for the full house in attendance at the Pier Restaurant. “It’s a real destination place where people will come to spend a half day or all day,” he said. According to Fenwick, the Mills concept involves premium brands, outlet retailers and multiple dining options. The company will be investing $600 million overall with $70 million alone being spent on road improvements.

The mall will contain five “neighborhoods,” with separate entrances. A Coast Salish component with two salmon made of colored glass will rise from a pool at the entrance. In total, there will be 200 stores. The grand opening is scheduled for October 6, 2016.

No theaters are planned although Fenwick did mention that theaters were later added to other Mills projects. Asked what retailers would be tenants, Fenwick was circumspect but said people could get a good idea of possible tenants by seeing which stores were at other Mills malls.

CrossIron Mills, built in 2009 and located north of Calgary, has 200 stores, 100 of which are outlets. Tenants include Hugo Boss, Adidas, Banana Republic Factory Store, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Calvin Klein, Coach Factory, ECCO, Foot Locker, Godiva, KFC, Levi’s Outlet, Purdy’s and so on through the alphabet.

saks off 5th also announced a second ottawa location and one more somewhere in ontario i think it was.

the mall kind of reminds me of that big mall in seattle which used to be called the supermall but i think they changed the name to the collection or something, its pretty big but nothing special inside.

I went to that Seattle mall two years ago. It's tragic and soulless.

By the looks of the construction pics, at least parts of the Tsawwassen Mills mall will have finished plaster ceilings.

That alone makes a huge difference.

Saks off is coming to the mills outlet near the BC ferry terminal. Article also states off fifth might open in oak ridge but that doesn't seem to correct.
Saks Off 5th will be an anchor.
There will be 16 anchor stores...

So they are planning to open the mall in fall 2016. What can still be taking so much time?

Same as why the Sears conversion took so long.

Once the mall is finished, the unimproved unit is handed over to the tenants to construct their leasehold improvements.

You can see in the November shot that the drywall isn't even up at the food court - it's a big facility.

Even when the mall opens, don't expect each tenant's work to have been completed at the same time as everyone else's.

OD is correct, the interior fit out takes a while in the retail world, much more so than for an office. 6-9 months is quite standard.

Not to mention it's not just 1 retail unit moving in, it's the entire mall. That's a lot of logistics for customized interiors throughout the mall. Going to take a while.

Well that is disappointing, is there another location this facility can be placed? (was this proposal located on land that they control?)

This was always pretty pie in the sky.

The majors are all still very active and quietly progressing their projects as fast as possible. LNG in BC will happen this decade.

On the news, the native leaders said that logistics warehousing on the same site would provide more jobs than the LNG plant would have provided - so it's not really a negative for them.

Do you mean LNG in the lower mainland? I think it's obvious something will happen further up the coast, but I'm not so sure about the Metro Vancouver area. Where is the supply coming from that would have gone out of that terminal?

The Tilbury LNG facility is owned by FortisBC.
It'll be fairly small in scale compared to the Northern BC ones, since the product will be for local use, not for export.

Expansion announced in November 2013:
http://www.vancouversun.com/technolo..._lsa=94ad-3be4

Construction of the expansion started in October 2014:
http://www.fortisbc.com/MediaCentre/...-Facility.aspx

There was a photo-op for the politicians last month (November 2015):

http://www.vancouverobserver.com/new...near-vancouver

Quote:

FortisBC operates the only two LNG facilities in British Columbia. The Tilbury LNG facility has operated safely and reliably since 1971. The Mt. Hayes facility on Vancouver Island was commissioned in 2011. The $400-million expansion at the Tilbury facility will allow FortisBC to meet the growing domestic demand for clean burning natural gas for the transportation industry and as an energy source for remote communities.
