Nice pics, Metro you should post a few in the canada section, show people how Vancouver does suburban environments, for better or worse, lol.
Here's some I took over the course of 2 hours while jogging along Richmond's western waterfront last week. Sorry for the poor quality... you can tell from the pixelation when I try to use the zoom function on my cell, lol.
The windmill-looking things are pumps to prevent Richmond's land from getting saturated with water and washing into the ocean.
Thanks. Looks nice for Canada in the dead of winter, hehe.
I would like to one day post all of my suburban pics in the canada section.
What is funny is in Maple Ridge you can see a huge difference between new housing developments vs. pre 1990 developments.
All of the pre 1990 developments are essentially grid networked neighbourhoods with very little landscaping. In recent years, due to new environmental regulations, neighbourhoods are now full of greenbelts, creeks, etc... and the roads twist and turn, following the greenbelt borders.
Such environmental regulations have also created much more relaxing and interesting suburban streetscapes (not to forget the added green spaces and the subsequent traffic calming from the winding of the roads).
It is definitely a good thing Maple Ridge has so many creeks.
Here are some Pictures of the area around Brentwood Skytrain station in Burnaby.
These were taken last week during the beautiful 8 day sunny streak we had during the Olympics. Around the Brentwood area the temps were around 15 in the afternoon during this sunny stretch.
I feel this area could become a very interesting urban environment, especially with the skytrain guideway running through it, over the next 2 decades.

Great shots of Richmond. I believe you are mistaken about the "windmill-looking things". They have no moving parts and have been there all my life, and only exist to warn ships about the lack of depth on Sturgeon Bank. Richmond's pumps are located in small buildings at the head of each arterial road, every 1/2 mile along the dyke, on all sides of the island. (Much more capable and redundant than the pump system that failed New Orleans.)
was down in Steveston Today all pics by me
it looks like they gave some money to the cannery it looks much improved compared to how it used to be benches, statues, etc looks good finally
pajos is my fave fish n chip spot
the place is full of fish and chip joints
new - finished i think 2009 maybe 2008
also new and completed in the last 5 years i am thinking - home of starbucks which had a very long line
to get from one part of Coquitlam to the other part you must pass through Port Moody - well the route i took... which will be the same route the new skytrain takes by 2014 (if it gets built)
Old Port Moody
new development - condos, retail and a hotel
development called New Port - retail, office, condos nice little area - very popular
now in Coquitlam - Centre area - there never was a "downtown" so over the past 2 decades they have created one - its slowly coming together - they moved city hall and an RCMP station to the area and a theatre and college
new retail is moving in - completed in the last few months
two tallest towers in Coquitlam
large regional mall
there is a large Iranian community in Coquitlam - this will be a large cafe, market - they are hiring but all the info was written in Iranian
lots that sat empty for years are finally being built - should be ready by the time the new evergreen skytrain gets here...
Coquitlam is also home to the largest Korean community in the Vancouver area...
about 5 typical split level single homes were on this block quite the change
some kid of community centre - reminds me of a Crate & Barrel
these are live/work condos - the bottom of the condo houses a small home run business - such as hairdresser, watch repair...

Damn, that was embarrassing. I originally heard it from some old guy on a bench on the dyke answering an asian woman who was wondering aloud what those things were, haha
^cool to see some pics, my sister's running the marketing for that. she said she sometimes checks out this website to see what people are saying about various projects, see what people like.
