It's part of the Texas Election Code (Sec. 277-022), part (e), which allows a signature to only be good for four months from when you submit the recall itself. Granted it's a little weird, but it's probably necessary for general petitions that could simmer on old signatures for years.

You only need the signatures from active voters, not everyone in Austin is a registered, active voter. That's where you see the schism between your ideal population and the 61,500 we actually saw.

Districts are based on 2010 census when COA population was 790,491. City council maps set to be re-drawn after the 2020 census.

District 7 can certainly benefit from a voice that captures sentiments wider than "No!". CM Pool is in her second term but her first term didn't count against her term limits so she may or may not run again (probably will, nothing better to do). The seat is up in two years.

If you all are serious about finding a new voice for the district that represents a wider range of voices in that area of town start looking now. And when they run make sure you max out to them: $350 for an individual or $700 for a couple. If you live in district hosting small parties for the candidate is huge!! If you live out of district mobilize your friends and family who are there.

I'm nervous about how many NIMBYs want to serve. "Let's plan for Austin in 1980! Only the rich shall have their single family home! Let's pretend to care about everyone else! Oops, didn't mean to say that last part out loud, hehe"

So for an update for those not paying attention:

1) Columbus announced a whole lot of new stadium infrastructure stuff this week. Seems the sale is pretty well a done deal of the Crew franchise which should move the lawsuit in Ohio out of the way.

2) The rumor is we should have a signed contract between the city and PSV as early as next week. Play to most likely begin in 2021 when the new stadium opens. Outside chance we get a team a year earlier in 2020.

3) Garber (MLS commisioner) just today said that MLS will be the first professional sport in Austin.

So, this is looking pretty locked in now.

Both PSV representatives and those at City Hall have made several public comments regarding a mid-December agreement. There has been no word to the contrary.

It's also been stated that Columbus has an end of year deadline to get everything through the CBUS council (new stadium plans approved, ownership in place etc) and that will require PSV to have a deal on the table from MLS because there is no way he's transferring rights to operate a club in Columbus for rights to a team with no approved location by the league.

Probably they will wait till after the Cup game tonight (and try and let the postive Columbus news be the headline to generate good will towards MLS) and then we'll get the announcement next week.

The question becomes do we enter with Miami in 2020 or do we hold off till 2021 and enter with Detroit/PHX/Sac winner? I think either are completely doable. I get the notion of starting fresh in McKalla place with all the buzz around a new stadium and permanent home... but part of me just wants games to go to a year earlier

Oh, I don't doubt that it is close. I was just wondering if StoOgE had some inside knowledge. I know the guy leading negotiations on behalf of the City, and that is the impression I get from him as well.
