That's what "Likes" are for, which is well within VBulletin's software, and even if it's just for photo sections.

That's not a bad idea. Would a post "like" button and count be something that photographers would like to see implemented?

It's at least an extra form of acknowledgement that doesn't require having to post anything for the sake of posting a response.

Move the seven (7) "Sticky" threads in GP to the bullet section under the advertisement banner.

A 'like' button or something similar would be nice. Perhaps something members and non-members of the forum could click.

While I like one off threads and prefer them I can see a place for ongoing threads. I do think they might need to be segregated to a separate section. Or maybe ongoing threads can be pinned.

I prefer the one off threads because they require you to develop a narrative and are similar to producing a news story or an exhibition. One offs typically have a beginning, middle and end to them. I see one offs as an act of storytelling.

One offs also require you to be critical of your own photos in the editing process. This would also limit or reduce the multiple threads a member may post about a city at one time. It seems anything beyond two or three threads about one city posted simultaneously is overkill. I think some walk down the street, snap a photo of every building on a street and post it. I call it GoogleStreetview photography. It leads to over exposure of a city and discourages others from sharing their photo point of view about that city because who really needs 8 photo threads of XYZ city all at the same time. Frankly I enjoy seeing a city from a variety of lenses. None of us see a city the exact same way and that's what is great about photography. Photography is partially what you do with the camera and partially what you do in your editing process.

Anyway those are my thoughts on improving the photography forum.

Apologies if this has been asked, but does SSP support retina (144dpi?) images? I find the resolution of the photos here to be noticeably lower than other forums.

^ Wouldn't that depend mainly on where the photos are hosted? When posted here they will just appear at the size linked to.

If you have zoom enabled in your browser, too, images will scale up and lose some resolution.

I don't have any zooming enabled, and most of my photos are hosted on Flickr at a really high resolution. While the sizing appears to correspond, Ive noticed that the quality looks noticeably worse on this forum compared to some others where I've posted photos. It's not just my photos either, Ive noticed in general the quality is never as pin sharp as the original source.

^ Never noticed it myself. Can't see any CSS on the site that would impact how linked images display, either. Is the effect the same for you on other browsers?

I tried a couple of the recent skyline pictures just in my browser outside of the forum and then in the forum, but I am not noticing any difference. I wonder if it is a perception illusion given background color of forum or things like that. Some forums do resize images automatically which could definitely give a different look to an image, but at the same size in its own window versus the skyscraperpage window, they looked identical to me.

Keep in mind that my issue is in regards to the iMac Retina 5K monitor which displays content at a higher pixel density (Retina screens are generally 144ppi vs 72). It's sort of similar to the issue when you view SD content on an HD tv...you notice issues that were never apparent before.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else was having this issue...but I guess not, ha.

I was having a discussion with a friend who does freelancing photography..his way of thinking is that many photos are boring because the subject is boring. For instance, a picture of Britney Spears shaving her head is going to be much more interesting to take than one of my husband doing the same. Point is...if you aren't satisfied with your photos, head out to a more interesting venue. I don't know if you'd agree to this?
