I think they may be starting to spread. I hear them sometimes at Ticats' games, and for the last home game (July 20 vs. the Argos) which I watched on TV they were caught by the microphones, and they were loud. Not quite as annoying as what are used in Montreal, but still so.

This when the crowd was making plenty of noise.

A few years ago, a couple sat in our section and had these hand-"spun" noise-makers that were so bloody loud my ears were ringing. They were Ticats fans, and eventually moved to another part of the stadium, but the sound was deafening and probably damaging (I'm quite certain I've already got lasting hearing issues from a concert I attended at Lee's Palace in Toronto in about 1996!)

Stampeders were absolutely horrible last night - they are Jeckel & Hyde with a long way to go. Glad to see Ottawa doing well though.
I love Ottawa’s new black home uniforms and helmets (the way they should be). Now to get a similar white away set.
I also really like the Stamps white & red roadies they’ve been wearing since last season.

Ok, even as a Calgary sports fan I now pity the Elks - it can’t go on like this - not good for the franchise or the league.

This stubborn insistence on not playing the Canadian QB is ridiculous.

Ford injected new life into an offence that wasn't able to do much for about 50 minutes. It's hard to say how he would have fared against a defence that wasn't playing out the game (I absolutely HATE when teams go into prevent mode... stay with what has worked! Otherwise it often prevents a team from winning the game -- particularly for the Ticats ). He certainly couldn't have done any worse in "regular" time than Bethel-Thompson last night.

Yup.

Embarrassing and frustrating to say the least.

I was at the game. Elks were booed off the field at halftime. Also chants of "Tre" and "We Want Ford". When McLeod Bethel-Thompson was running to start his shift in the 3rd and 4th, he was booed. Atmosphere completely changed when Tre entered.

As for gameday experience, elks have a decent product. Majority of fans are in the west stands as its away from direct sunlight. The East stands get blasted with sunlight hence why they are mostly empty.

Last time I was at an EE game was in 2018 and there is a stark contrast now. Crappy team + poor economy is causing the stands to be less full. On the other end tho, I was happy to see public transit very well arranged. The LRT station beside the stadium is beautiful.

Well, 2-2 last week.

17-15 overall now.

BC @ WPG: BC
MTL @ HAM: MTL
EDM @ SSK: SSK
TOR @ CGY: TOR. What was that last week Calgary. Two attempted field goals? Was Ottawa really that good?

It's funny, our local collegiate summer baseball team, the Riverhawks, have been able to get between 5,000 and 10,000 fans in the stands this summer, only in their third season, which is a huge contrast to the Elks, a professional football team around for decades, can barely attract 20,000 to a stadium of 55,000 over the last couple of seasons.

The Elks management could learn a thing or two from the Riverhawks.

One of worst records in pro sports over the last half decade will do that to fan support. Not long ago Edmonton was the model franchise for the CFL.

There’s a few NHL teams that could that could learn a thing or two from the Riverhawks too.

The other guy had five games to prove he couldn't win, and the guy before him had a season and a half? Will Ford get five games if he doesn't win right away, somehow I doubt it.

Rumours have a Mr. Larry Thompson as a likely candidate for the Elks new ownership. Recently sold his construction company for a lot of money and is a long-time Elks ticket holder, business leader and fan.

The cope has already started: I’ve seen multiple posts on Facebook and Twitter claiming that the new owner is gonna rename the team to the Esks, as if a shorthand version of the old name is any less problematic.

Hope the new ownership reverts the team’s fortunes. Would be nice to see big crowds at Commonwealth again.

Changing the name at that time was wrong, done under duress at a time of the worst McCarthyest activist control of society. That time is thankfully now gone.

However the only way, I would change it back (forget the shortened Esks) would be to get AFN leaders on video and on paper giving their blessing. I use AFN as my reference as I don't know if Inuit are under that overseeing body.

Anything short of that forget it and if thinking Esks is any different you might as well take the rifle and shoot the other foot.

Lions have said that they intend to keep both VA and Rourke.

Inuit's organization is the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, and they were the ones who lead the push to change the name. It ain't happening.

The new name and branding is better than anything as the Eskimos, honestly. The uniforms are cooler and the mascot makes more sense than a polar bear, as we are at least 1,300 km from the nearest wild one and there are elk maybe a half hour drive from downtown lol.

Don't change the name back, it would be silly.
