I took a jog through the new park over the weekend. It's a fantastic addition to the Gantry Park area—I especially love the lawn and architecture. And it was packed with people out enjoying a beautiful Fall day.

A secuency made from the galery of bitchcakes on flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bitchcakes/
She frecuently takes shots from that spot, although her shots are not intended to make construction updates of these buildings, but inadvertently she does.

I cropped the original picture in order to focus on the buildings.
The secuency is from august 23, when the site B tower started to rise above the buildings in the foreground until yesterday, october 12th. In that time, 50 days, the tower grown 18 stories so one every 2,77 days on average, pretty quick!

August 23th
the formwork barely rising above that brown buiding

In no time, maybe 3 or 4 weeks, it will obscure the Chrysler as seen from that point. At the rate it is growing, it may top out by the end of the year.

I believe that Brooklyn, Queens, and the 'Gold Coast' of New Jersey together have the potential to change the skyline as much as Manhattan, even though the buildings will be shorter. As we get more highrises in these areas, more vantages in the metro area will have that Tokyo-like effect. During the day you'll see different shadows and textures on different groupings of buildings. While you drive on an elevated highway or ride an elevated train, you'll speed by highrises as the CBDs stay relatively still like the moon following you on a road trip.

One of my favorite views of the city is the approach to the Battery Tunnel if you're heading north on the Gowanus. Jersey City, Downtown, and Downtown Brooklyn blend together, with Midtown looming in the background, almost always in a different hue during the day.

Sorry for being off-topic, but that looks like a strange place to dock a boat.

That's Newtown Creek...Northside is Hunter's Point South development..that is continuing to move along further south. The south side of the creek is Greenpoint...which has gotten the greenlight to start up. Greenpoint Landing development and 77 Commercial will fill up most of that waterfront property. The Greenpoint landing project showed an awesome foot bridge crossing the creek to Hunter's Point. Check it out there are forum's for both.

Window installation should be very soon...

Dispute over windows halts progress at Hunter’s Point South
Glass panes yet to be shipped after flap over payment erupts, report says
Julie Strickland April 03, 2014 01:00PM

Quote:
A contractor squabble over the delivery of $13 million worth of windows for Long Island City development Hunter’s Point South may delay the completion of construction’s first phase.

A handful of the panes in question, originally set to be delivered in September 2013, arrived last week, a spokesperson for the development partnership of the Related Companies, Phipps Houses Group and Monadnock Construction told the Wall Street Journal reported. Construction on one of the towers finished in October, minus the window panes, and another in January. The buildings have since sat wrapped in orange netting, a pause causing Queens residents and neighboring office workers to scratch their heads.

“We’re just sitting and waiting for windows, which is bizarre,” James Van Bramer, City Council Majority Leader, told the Journal. “It’s disappointing on so many levels.”

An attorney for the Florida-based window maker Glasswall LLC told the Journal that the $7 million to $8 million worth of windows have been ready for months but that the developers tried to renegotiate the contract, refusing to pay for them in the meantime.

“We’ve already produced two-thirds of the material,” Jason Giller, an attorney for Glasswall, told the Journal. “We haven’t been paid anything.”

A spokeswoman for the development trio denied that it attempted to renegotiate the agreed-upon contract to the Journal.

An end to the standoff appears to be imminent, as a few windows have already been delivered by Florida-based Glasswall LLC and several more are expected to be shipped later this week, according to the Journal.

FIELD CONDITION:

HUNTERS POINT SOUTH / APRIL 09, 2014
April 9, 2014

Quote:
The first floor of curtain wall has been installed on the East and North facades of the first tower at Hunters Point South. The start of curtain wall installation has been significantly delayed since the topping out of the concrete structure but appears to now be on track. Notable features of the facade include: orange PTAC units, light gray spandrel panels, and clips for the later installation of the vertical fins that run up the building.

I walked around this area a few weeks ago, was thinking about moving from Washington Hghts to Long Island City next year. The area is totally lacking in retail, coffee shops etc.. I know retail development follows housing, but it was really lacking everything.
