I wonder how traffic into Frankfurt will shape up?

Traffic must be picking up at YVR. I witnessed not one but two accidents on Granville last week involving Vancouver's notoriously bad cab drivers. For months there was nary a cab to be seen on that route.

As mentioned on theaeronetwork, QF to reintroduce service to YVR.

Service begin Dec 18, 2021, 3x weekly 789. Seems to be year-round service this time.

Does Qantas have enough 787's to do year round service to YVR ? Considering that their A380's are grounded, won't they need the 787's to provide services from PER, MEL, and BNE on top of former A380 routes out of SYD.

In a media statement, Qantas confirmed five A380s will return to service ahead of schedule. The A380s would fly between Sydney and Los Angeles from July 2022, and between Sydney and London (via Singapore) from November 2022.

“The A380s work well on these long-haul routes when there’s sufficient demand, and the high vaccination rates in both markets would underpin this,” said the statement.

Qantas confirmed two of their 12 Airbus A380s would not return to service. Qantas CEO Alan Joyce calls the two aircraft “surplus to requirements.” However, the airline says the remaining 10 A380s will be back in the air by 2024. The mega jumbos not yet refurbished will be refurbished by then.

Love it that Qantas is seemingly coming back to YVR year round!! They were one of our earliest overseas carriers and date back to about 1960!
Given that they're retiring some of their A380s, I wonder if they'll consider investing in any A350s - not that I'd expect to see that metal on any flights out of Vancouver- but still .....

It’s Subject to Canada government approval 1st. Not available for booking yet.

Your point is well made. However, the fact that it is even planned is (to me) a wonderful thing.

A friend was able to book Melbourne to Vancouver using Air New Zealand for Jan 2022.

I believe they are investing in some A350-1000's for project sunrise. Though will they put those A350's on routes other than SYD-LHR and SYD-JFK is up in the air.

Yes, many of us probably though QF was going to give up YVR after the 744 retirement and the pandemic hit. So even if the service doesn't materialized in December due to the pandemic situation, at least this shows YVR is still on their radar.

By the way, reservation is for the flight is now open.

Is this service to/from Sydney, or another city down there?

^ I too was (pleasantly) surprised YVR was announced when I read QF’s ASX (Australian Stock Exchange) press release. Then seeing it in their timetable confirmed it.
Still a lot can happen between then and now but great news.
I’ll try and do a September summary next week.
Six carriers will be flying YVR-Europe next month: AC (LHR), AF (CDG), BA (LHR), KL (AMS), LH (FRA & MUC) and TK (IST).

When is AC resuming SYD? March 2022 I think.

Perfect opportunity for QF to cement YVR in its network, year round, with a preemptive strike come December. Let's see if AC moves forwards their SYD resumption. Either way, there should be plenty of room for both carriers on the route, considering most likely BNE and MEL aren't coming online anytime soon.

All the way through the pandemic AC has been flying into SYD on a fairly regular basis. However it has only been for cargo. Hopefully the decision to switch to having passengers on the flights is straightforward.

Interestingly enough, September is currently scheduled with 9-10x weekly flights, and BA86/87 is making a comeback...

Due to restrictions on non stop Canada-India flights, which run until Sept 22, a lot of Indians are flying to Albania, Armenia, Serbia etc (countries with no visa requirements for Indians) and are quarantining 2 weeks, in order to be able to catch onwards flights to Canada, or any other country with restrictions on non stop flights.

Now that the Canadian borders will open to anyone full vaccinated come Sept 7, bet you anything BA is seeing an uptick in demand for YVR, mostly originating from these Indians in Europe. The added BA flights are most likely because of this. Notice they revert back to daily as of October, which is when the restriction on non stop flights ends. If Canada extends the India flight bans, I expect BA to re-add the second flight.

All of BA's B77Ws are 4 class aircraft, whereas LHR-YVR is sold as 3 class. Mind you, BA have been known to operate their B77Ws into Canada as a 3 class flight. (First was sold as Club).

Yes, knew about the cargo runs. I was talking specifically about passenger flights, which resume in March 2022 I believe.

AC moved SYD resumption up to Dec 15th, a days before QF start the route from SYD. 4x weekly 77L.
