Nobody within the Inner I-10 17 highway loop should be allowed to complain about height and density

Google Earth finally updated the aerial photos... Block 23 being basically done makes the biggest difference.

And now I can't wait until next year's update with all these projects just getting underway looking much more completed and taking away even more empty lots.

It's beyond growth, this is like nothing I've ever seen in my life.

I completely agree. I wonder if it will ever get to the point where the anti-height crowd will finally give up?

I think the point has been made that Phoenix will continue to grow at one of the fastest rates in the nation for years to come even in spite of a huge setbacks during the bust. Phoenix has passed Philly and I think all eyes are on Phoenix for development since it will be in the top 5 largest city for many, many years. I honestly think the growth would have been like this the last 10 years if it weren't for the bust. Phoenix is just getting back on track to where it left off. Either way, I don't think it's going to slow down any time soon.

Having the 2nd largest concentration of financial services employees outside NYC helps. Having an economy that is properly diversified and not just focused on snowbirds and growth helps. Feels like the area is finally starting to 'mature' - the next 20 years or so should be really interesting to watch play out.

The anti-height/growth crowd will eventually die out. Most of them (in my experience) are boomers who moved here expecting it to be just like whatever midwest suburb they just left. They have zero concept about what a healthy city is like growth-wise, nor do they understand that we are on a growth trajectory that isn't going to stop anytime soon. People moving here for real jobs need to go somewhere.

I hope this prediction is correct, but I don't have much faith in generational generalizations. I've recently read commentary in both the State Press and the Downtown Devil, two student publications, with an anti-development, anti-density point of view. The justification is sometimes different. The student writers worry about gentrification while older homeowners worry about diminished property values. Both complain about traffic and parking. The common theme is one of fearing change and wanting the landscape to stay the same. It's a disease that can affect all ages.

I don't think enjoying something the way it is and wanting to continue enjoying it is a disease.

It's not if it meets one of these criteria:

1) Wanting to keep something in a pristine state. The Phoenix Mountain Preserve, for example, should not be subject to development.

2) Wanting to maintain your own personal property as you see fit as long as doing so does not infringe upon others.

3) Wanting to maintain a measurable and widely accepted indicator of qualify of life such as a low crime rate.

Where I think we enter "disease" territory is when people want their neighborhoods and cities to never change at all or change only in ways that match their tastes and lifestyles.

Depending on someone's perspective any one of those things can be debated. One of the hardest things I've learned in life is not everyone views the world the way I do, in fact it's safe to say 50% or more of the world does not view things the way we do on this forum.

Someone's opinion of what might be infringing on their life in a measurable way could stem from something as innocuous as a 10 story building with windows looking into their back yard or a 7 story building partially blocking their view of a mountain. I think they are entitled to have their views regardless of whether they align with mine or not.

Does anyone know what is going on? It would be amazing if these would be rehabbed back to life just like the Welnick Market and The Van Buren just up the street.
.
There is a sign on these buildings that says Gateway community college which does not bode well to me.

Are they going to turn these buildings into boring classrooms?

I am really starting to hate colleges when it comes to developing this stuff.

They got the go ahead from the city in 2016 and more than 3 years later they are just getting started? What the hell ?

That's weird. ??? Does yours not automatically update? Not sure how it works.

Nope, I'm talking about the aerial views. Street view is random depending on where you are. I've seen some as recent as May of this year. I use Google earth pretty much all day for work.
