I think that's the space where Dancing Goats Coffee is slated to go. They said it was going to be across from the MARTA station entrance and would have a patio, which is already poured on the left side of that retail space.

The much larger space at the corner of W Peachtree and Peachtree Place will need a much larger, very high profile tenant.

Not a very exciting meeting. A lot of boutique residential developments though. Surface parking in Midtown? I hope DRC makes them change that.

North American plans to remake Midtown's Colony Square.

North American Properties is emerging as the front-runner to buy and redevelop Colony Square, the project that more than 40 years ago launched mixed-use development in the South and helped turn Midtown from a seedy hub of Atlanta counterculture to a mainstream arts and cultural district.Cincinnati-based North American Properties is coming off the successful turnaround of another well-known Midtown mixed-use project, Atlantic Station, which recently sold for just short of $200 million after an extensive repositioning with new retail tenants and events.

North American Properties planned to put the property under contract this week, according to sources familiar with the discussions.North American is known for creating vibrant retail developments, such as Avalon in Alpharetta, which features chef-driven restaurants and hip boutiques. The company also uses events and entertainment to draw people to its projects.

Surprised no one has posted about two subscriber articles in today's ABC:

- Supposedly North American Properties might "redevelop" Colony Square. Presumably by turning the retail into a more inviting, modern design that engages with the street rather than isolates it.
- Apparently there's some dispute involving funding behind the Proton Therapy Center. Not sure what the deal with this is; it's a bizarre project in a bizarre location, and I just hope it can open and start contributing something positive to Midtown in some reasonable timeframe.

But important nonetheless.

A lot of times the various DRC's have valuable input on tweaking out infill and other details that make a big difference in how a project turns out.

Maybe they can open the Proton center as is and let the property fronting Peachtree be redeveloped into something a bit taller.

I think they have a LOT ($$) of work left to do inside the new structure before that part can open. Now that the parent company looks like it is filing bankruptcy, the whole process should grind to a further halt.

The Peachtree frontage should be developed into something better but it would still have to provide parking to the Proton therapy building.

Welp, it could be years that the intersection is affected in a negative way...Disaster...I knew the Proton Center was a bad idea.

That's an understatement. They may have funded it by fraudulently taking money from another center in Dallas which has since declared bankruptcy:

I think the project is probably dead. The amount of concrete on the site could make redevelopment difficult. Hopefully it doesn't just sit there for years like Streets of Buckhead did.

Just noticed the news article says there is supposed to be a hotel on the front part of this parcel. Is there any other word on that?

Not really arjay, other than it's owned by Starwood and not associated with this development.

So it looks like that project at 880 West Peachtree may not be dead after all. Looking through the public records, I noticed they filed for a permit and paid permit fees on October 8th.

As stated in the article, the hotel site is owned by Starwood. Starwood also includes W Hotels. I found these renderings of a W Hotel for this site a month ago. One of these designs very well may be what is planned....
