Is this bigger than White Juan?
Either way these must be among the largest in day totals and storm totals ever there.
What an odd, relatively out of nowhere, event.

It's inevitable that the comparisons are there, as it has certainly been a big one. It will probably be a day or two before the full effects are known, especially in eastern NS and Cape Breton, who got absolutely hammered. I'm sure for them it will be bigger than White Juan (much bigger, I suspect).
I can't speak for anyone else in the city, but for my place, White Juan dumped more snow and the drifting was insane. I am still in the same place I was then, and when it was done, WJ had covered the cars up to the windshield. It took two days for our street to be cleared (I am on a low priority street - the main roads were opened much sooner), and in the meantime I had shoveled out the driveway up to the street, where I was facing a wall of snow approx 4 - 5 ft.
This storm, in comparison, had a lot of drifting snow, but much less in total (for me), and the winds weren't as strong either, so the drifting wasn't as severe.
The storm duration was much longer as well, and the gradual accumulation of snow gave crews a chance to keep things clear, so locally the roads stayed open (though I saw on Google Maps that Cobequid pass was closed for a while yesterday, and I'm sure Cape Breton is probably at a standstill). My little street was cleared twice over the weekend, and there's not enough accumulation to prevent anybody from getting out. Also, I was able to shovel out the driveway twice (and have to do it again), whereas WJ happened too quickly and the winds were too severe to allow shoveling during the storm. That said, yesterday the snow being blown into my face while shoveling wasn't a pleasure... had to turn my back to it whenever possible. Speaking of my back... it's not feeling the best today...
This was posted on facebook yesterday morning by a local meteorologist (for CTV). There was still a complete day of snowfall yet to come, so a complete comparison couldn't be made yet.

The go to comparison for many is White Juan in 2004. We are certainly in the ballpark (or more) of total amounts of snow in comparison to that storm. It should be noted that some unofficial snow reports from White Juan ran 100 to 150 cm.
There are of course some significant differences between the two storm systems. White Juan more intense but this one a much longer duration. Wind was much stronger for some areas with White Juan and contributed to more power outages.
More snow to come this evening, tonight, and Monday. For most areas though the snow is expected to be more intermittent and lighter tomorrow.
One thing to keep in mind for Monday is the north wind will still be gusting 30 to 60 km/h. That means that blowing and drifting snow will still be around. That could still reduce visibility at times even if the snow rates have let up. Previously cleared surfaces could also be covered back in.
