From Belgium - Naples hot on the right wing '99 Buchanan, revelation of Canada in Qatar:
Redazione Tutto Napoli.net December 5 2022

The Details

Tajon Buchanan, offensive winger of Club Brugge, revelation in Qatar with Canada, represents the ideal profile for Napoli.

Young, quality, in line with the wage bill: Tajon Buchanan, full-back for Club Brugge,

This was written by the Belgian portal Voetbalnieuws, according to which the right wing born in '99 is a hot target for the blue club, looking - we read - for a possible heir to Hirving Lozano, if the latter were to leave next summer.

There's also this:

AFAIK there is no confirmation of this, yet

The 2024 Copa América is looking like it will be in the USA. This, after the resignation of Ecuador as host country.

United States, Mexico and Canada have agreed to play. There will be invites to 3 other nations from CONCACAF. Info via FOXSportsMX

It makes sense why Canada, USA and Mexico why all 3 hosts for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be taking part in Copa America 2024. We have to prepare as much as possible for our World Cup on our home soil but then we have also the 2023 Gold Cup and 2025 Gold Cup as further preparation.

Who else loves the WC being played in Nov-Dec?

I always feel guilty watching the WC in summertime. I feel as though I'm wasting a month of good weather, sitting indoors watching the beautiful game.

That's not the case this year. I'm watching Croatia-Brazil, while it's -4C outside. I love it.

The World Cup should always be played in Nov-Dec.

I agree with the first part of your post. But having the WC mid-season, resulting in MANY star players missing out due to injuries received in the weeks leading up, will have my leaning towards the summer preference

Agreed. I had some nasty-ass seasonal flu which coincided with Team Canada's matches... it was the perfect, guilt-free way to enjoy a couple hours on the couch watching soccer, pounding back a Neo-Citran

The World Cup was by far the best daytime TV option during that stretch!

Buchanan weighing options after meetings with EPL, Serie A clubs
Matthew Scianitti tsn.ca December 8, 2022

Tajon Buchanan continues to weigh his options following meetings with English Premier League and Italian Serie A clubs in Qatar during the World Cup, sources tell TSN.

The 23-year-old Canadian international currently plays for Belgium league champions Club Brugge. Two weeks ago, TSN reported clubs interested in Buchanan are currently putting the value of the midfielder at $20 million, but Club Brugge has not yet indicated at what price they would be willing to sell the Canadian.

Sources tell TSN, Buchanan recently returned to Canada following Canada’s exit from the World Cup. Buchanan is set to return to Brugge on Dec. 12, and the Brampton, Ont., native is said to be focused on Brugge’s league season and its February UEFA Champions League knockout-round games against Portuguese league leaders Benfica.

Buchanan is said to be interested in the right move to one of Europe’s top five leagues — which include the EPL and Serie A — but is looking for the right fit and will not make a move to one of Europe’s top leagues on a whim. Sources also say there’s a possibility Buchanan might move in January then be loaned back to Brugge for the remainder of the season.

News around Buchanan follows the moves of a couple of his national teammates. Defender Alistair Johnston is set to join Scottish Champions Celtic in January, while 20-year-old midfielder Ismaël Koné has signed with Watford FC in the English Championship. Both players spent last season with MLS club CF Montreal.

Seeing Croatia and Morocco performing well in knock-out stages definitely reduces the pain of how Canada did. Confirms they really were in a hard group

Historically significant club, Malmo

VW defender Derek Cornelius agrees with Malmö FF
Anel Avdic expressen-se December 9 2022

Here is Malmö FF's second new acquisition for 2023.

The Express can reveal that Derek Cornelius, 25, of Vancouver Whitecaps FC, is details away from being ready for the MFF.

The parties agreed on a contract and Malmö will pay around five million kroner.

After finishing seventh in the Allsvenskan and missing out on the Europa League, Malmö FF has undergone a lot of changes in recent weeks ahead of next season. Henrik Rydström is the new coach and by his side he has also got Theodor Olsson from Sirius as an assistant.

A lot has happened in the squad as well.

Erdal Rakip and Romain Gall have left for new adventures, which means that Malmö are looking for several new acquisitions for next season. Anton Tinnerholm is already ready to play in Malmö FF and, among other things, they want to recruit a new centre-back, which Expressen was able to report on at the end of October .

Now MFF has found its defense rock.

Selected in Canada's WC squad

According to information to Expressen, Malmö FF are only details away from finalizing center back Derek Cornelius, 25. Cornelius belongs to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in MLS but has been on loan to Greek Panetolikos FC during the year, where he was a teammate of Jacob Une Larsson. There he played 13 games and made one assist.

All parties must agree on a transfer and the player has also fully negotiated the personal terms with Malmö. According to information to Expressen, Malmö FF will pay around five million kroner for the player. If nothing unforeseen happens, the transfer can therefore become official within the next few weeks.

Cornelius is a meritorious Canadian defender. In addition to playing in MLS and the Greek league, the 25-year-old also has 14 caps for Canada and was selected in Canada's World Cup squad. However, there was no playing time and Cornelius had to sit on the bench in the group stage.

Wow. Way to go Morocco. Can’t believe no one has scored against them yet, except for that own goal against Canada.

They’re not beating England or France though.

With a Canadian born GK

It would be good to see Morocco in the final but that would mean England got beat so I'm torn there

Two teams from Canada's group are in the Semi-finals. Think it's safe to say the boys had a very hard (maybe the hardest?) group for their first WC

When that dude got a second yellow I was really worried that Portugal would score because of the man advantage. And that wasn't a card. I can't blame the referee, because it looked studs up but upon closer look, his studs were at the level of the ball and he was very close to the ball and he didn’t follow through . Commentators agreed. You hate to see big games be decided like that.

And Argentina should have had 10 men. Guy butchered his tackle for a yellow card and then in frustration kicked the ball to the side. I don't think he was intentionally aiming for the NED bench but that's exactly where the ball went. That's a second yellow. And technically, when Virgil came over and bodied him to the ground, while justifiable, that should be a red card as well.

And when NED tied the game in the last second, it was becauase of the completely unnecessary foul to set up the free kick. He just bowled over the guy while looking up at the ball. Complete lack of situational awareness. And makes me think how in all sports, these are professionals who are paid ridiculous sums of money, but still do some of the dumbest shit possible to cost their teams. There's playing with emotion and being in the heat of the moment, but so much is still completely avoidable if you just use your brain for a second. Hockey is the worst when it comes to frequency. Sure, just randomly try and chop a guy's hands off at centre ice, nowhere near the puck and put the other team on the power play. Happens time and time again, dumb ass penalties, yet it's not really taken that seriously for some reason.

Anyway, regarding those little moments in the WC, it really goes to show how the smallest thing can lead to the biggest, game changing moment. Some within your control, some outside your control. Many, many championships have been decided by small plays or missed calls. That's the nature of soccer. Same with cricket before replay. Luck is a major part of tournaments.

Glad to see an African team get this far. Of course, Ghana would have been that team to do it first if it wasn't for super villain Luis Suarez and his handball. Also glad to see the Morocco coach saying the day before that no way he or another Arab coach would be hired by a notable European club. But here he is, in the WC SF, ahead of Belgium's, Spain's and Portugal's coaches. All managers at the highest levels and trophy winners with far more talent at their disposal. The old boys club that is major professional coaching bothers me.

And you know how I feel about penalties. LVG said that he asked all his NED players to practice penalties while with their clubs. Sure, ARG's coach could have done the same thing, but it was never mentioned, but I feel like one day a coach is going to do the opposite and just wing it and it's going to work and more coaches follow suit.

Lol. Yeah, most are not the sharpest tools in the shed. Peoples' lack of geographical awareness has fascinated me for a long time. I grew up loving maps and geography trivia. I'm by no means gifted like some of my classmates in HS and University. For as bright as those classmates were, so many of them had awful geography knowledge. Like they couldn't tell you what the neighbouring city to the north is. The city that has been beside the city you grew up in all your life and you don't know it. My wife couldn't tell you that we live in Halton Region.

And speaking of Reach, I was on the HS team. Funny how it was like the WC. We had home and away matches with the other schools and if you did well enough, you qualified for the big tournament at a specific site.

Canada not only should we be playing in tournaments like the 2023 Gold Cup, 2024 Copa America and 2025 Gold Cup but in that time frame we also need to be playing more friendly matches as well in Canada either at BC Place in Vancouver or in Toronto at BMO Field because they are our World Cup venues for 2026 but also brings in a lot of revenue
