This ruling from the Supreme Court against Ontario's Ministry of Transport could have implications nationwide when realigned highways bypass businesses dependent on passing trade:

The Antrim Truck Stop had to relocate itself to Arnprior. The dumb thing in this case is that the Ministry could have just built a new rest centre at Arnprior and given them first crack at building something, and in so doing better integrated it into the interchange. Instead, it's now created a tangle of roads and a convoluted path to access the facility, all of which probably cost nearly as much again as the compensation they've been ordered to pay.

I would expect some assistance on new infrastructure projects like the UBC subway, and the DRL. I also expect a lot of that to be spent on upgrading current infrastructure.

Didn't they just finish rehabilitating part of the 403 through Hamilton?

No, many of the work was repairing the bridges that goes over the 403 in Hamilton, York, King, Main and Aberdeen.

Eventually they'll need to add another lane along the 403 in Hamilton. Three lanes, goes down to two lanes, three lanes and back to two lanes.

One of the possibilities being considered for dealing with the corridor (West GTA something or other I think it is called) is double-decking the 403 through Hamilton and up the escarpment and having an express-collector configuration. I have no idea what the status on that is though, and whether that particular idea is still in consideration or not.

That highway is actually surprisingly busy, just as busy as most of the Trans Canada in Northern Ontario.

Drove Calgary to Penticton and back over the weekend - what a national embarrassment the TCH is for a large portion of this journey. Long stretches through Yoho, Rogers Pass don't even have any lines and the state of the road surface is third world. Pleeeaaase put some Federal/Provincial money into our national highway.
On the bright side, the highway could realistically be twinned from Calgary to Golden in 10 years with a concerted effort.

The new Detroit River International Crossing has gotten presidential approval: http://blogs.windsorstar.com/2013/04/11/...ts-long-awaited-u-s-presidential-permit/

Construction is hoped to start just as the 401 extension winds down. Hopefully there are no more delays but as we all know another curveball could come at any time... probably from Matty Moroun.
