by the language there, i'm guessing that's the SE corner of third and peachtree, just north of the hotel indigo.

let's hope it takes up all the street frontage on that ugly lot.

that dinner theatre building on that lot has had the current façade for a very long time. i saw a photo from the 60s with the same phony-shakespearean look on the front of it.

Big entertainment project eyed for Civic Center site

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/print...nment-project-eyed-for-civic-center.html

Quote:
Film and television studios surrounded by a performing arts center, a hotel, and a mix of residential, office and retail could transform the downtown Civic Center property into a regional tourist destination.

It is one of the more ambitious concepts to emerge so far as the city prepares to put the 19-acre Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center site on the market – yet another project that could ignite more downtown revitalization.

Carter, a leading Atlanta real estate developer, is proposing the concept.

what i have wondered is, instead of building all these studios from here to fayette county, why hasn't there been a proposal to incorporate studios together in a high rise? now that the tonight show has moved back to its original studio, it brought about the idea.

I'm very impressed that they aren't building parking. Let's hope that they don't force residents who don't own cars pay for a space they don't use (1/4 of Midtown households are car-free).

I walk by every week to check it out. Two weeks ago there was a trailer full of pipes and stuff and last week they were gone, so I'm guessing they are doing something with sewage or draining. No crane out there or any sign of serious heavy construction yet but they are definitely doing stuff.

Its not entirely urban but I'll take it in a heartbeat if it means something will actually happen with that site. A few tweaks and it'll be a winner. At this point the development is purley conceptual anyway and the site is still owned by the city.

As usual I'm probably the voice crying in the wilderness but that looks pretty cool to me. At least from the conceptual standpoint.

Studios in a high rise probably would not work functionally nor economically. Its basically a big warehouse that can become anywhere.

^ I love this, and consider this to be a very smart decision for this building and Downtown.

I think Downtown is going to surprise many in the next year.

Plans filed for 5th and peachtree project

JLB Partners filed plans Thursday for its latest project 5th and Peachtree, an eight-story residential tower with ground level retail.

The developer submitted a building permit application to City of Atlanta to construct the new mixed-use development, at 780 West Peachtree St. NW

Push back at the community level does have an effect. The first time around this proposal included only the resident entrance and a residents-only gym along Peachtree. Along 5th street was actually all parking behind glass. Now we get retail all along Peachtree and a retail slot along 5th, much better!
