Good. It is historical. Wasn't it the biggest cantilevered bridge in the world when it was built?

It is still the case. Pont de quebec is still the longest cantilever bridge span in the world.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...r_bridge_spans

Also a National Historic Site. The bridge is not going anywhere.

The Forth Bridge is the longest while Pont de Québec has the longest span. (the Forth Bridge has two cantilever spans)

Thanks. I've seen the Forth bridge too. I've been to Scotland and spent several days in Edinburgh.

So they are restoring the Quebec Bridge but giving up on Alexandra in Ottawa. Alexandra is also a National Historic Site. It was the longest cantilevered bridge in Canada when it was built.

I'm a little ticked. Not that they are investing in the Quebec Bridge, but that they are not considering doing the same in Ottawa.

Same here. I went over the Forth Bridge on a train a couple of times. We also went swimming (crazy, yes) in the Firth of Forth, near the bridges (there are now three, including that spectacular cantilever structure).

This is probably the best architectural addition to Ottawa since the Canadian War Museum.

It's a lot less pretty and while the Confed bridge only has 250m cantilever sections, it does, gosh darn, have 43 of em.

I'm upset about the loss of the old bridge, but this new one should be quite nice. The gentler grade will make it easier to bike/walk across, and the wider sections for sightseeing will be welcome additions.

I was hoping cars would never drive across it, but the CAQ just killed the STO tramway.

Reminds me a bit of the St. Patrick's island pedestrian bridge in Calgary.
