Also...what's the deal with the Pub. Transportation system here? There's virtually NO bus service...and as a poor, carless college student, I could really use it!

i hope the newest population estimate indicates a trend. it's nice to see the decline leveling out. would be even better to see it start rising again!

(btw, i did my part when i moved into the city back in 2007, haha)

I know it's a little off-topic, but one of my biggest pet peeves in life is getting to/from the Birmingham airport. I can occasionally find Southwest flights between Birmingham and Austin for $79, but it costs a lot more than that to get a ride from my home in Tuscaloosa to the Birmingham airport.
If I drive to the airport myself and leave my car there, the Birmingham airport charges a ridiculous amount per day (Austin's airport is considerably cheaper, and generally nicer).

That's just one of the pains of Tuscaloosa not having commercial air service anymore. With any luck, maybe we'll see some mass transit between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham in the future.

I'm coming home to visit Birmingham at the end of August from NYC...I'm really excited to see anything new thats happened...anyone have suggestions of new neighborhoods, restaurants, construction sites or anything i should visit???

I took a detour on my way home to Decatur tonight to see some Birmingham stuff.

Drove past the RR Park and WOW... It looked amazing at night, and it wasn't even finished. I can tell it's just gonna turn out amazing. Gonna be a nice place to stroll through at night and just gaze out at the skyline.

Also, Cityville is looking nice. It looks so much better than I thought it would. Both bigger and cooler than I though.

Question: Everything that I've read says that the Railroad Park opened in July... yet, when I drove by there was fencing around a lot of it. It looked like it was in some kind of stage of open, but it still looked like it was underconstruction.

So I was wondering if there was any new date that they release that I might have just missed. Anyone know?

Not if the athletic director says there are no formal plans. I think its just big talk and nothing more.

There are plans. UAB is just keeping it quiet for the time being. Most folks think you'll hear alot more in about 2-3 months. Alot has been going on behind closed doors for some time... only now is it starting to creep more into the public sector.

2 sites have been pushed around for a while now. One where the Best Western, Waffle House and West Campus Fields are. The other where the practice field is.

I think its a silly idea. UAB and BSU should pool their money together and just invest in Legion Field.
