I fully expect B6 to utilize the CSeries on these routes. What better way to start your first Canadian runs than with a Canadian built aircraft !

I'll go out of my way to avoid Bombardier product thank you. It's not built in Canada. It's built in Quebec, which apparently has a national assembly go figure.

The 'Assemblée Nationale' in Québec CIty is named for the Assemblée Nationale in Paris, which is why it is thusly named. In Québec, of course, it is the provincial capital, but aims to appease the nationalist aspiations of many Quebeckers. And Montreal and QC are great places, if you haven't been there.

Lol. it kind of is.

You might have had a point if you had said that JetBlue’s frames are assembled in Alabama, but you didn’t.

Yeah. Since 1968. Is that a problem for you? Do you lose sleep at night because of it? I’m sure there’s pills for that.

Montreal’s hockey team is called the Canadiens. Is that an issue as well? Lol

yeah, agreed. i do make sure to avoid supporting Quebecois products as much as i can. my tax dollars via equalization payments more than subsidize them and their constant complaining about Canada. of course, this is while they drain the West of our own money which then slows down our investment into our own infrastructure.

ironic when you think about it, our taxes subsidize Bombarider through the Quebecois government, and then we buy products for them so they can make a profit. we literally pay 2x for a product! how lovely.

Feel free to rant about it in the Federal government and politics thread.

This is an aviation/airport page. Keep it on topic.

Speaking of which, looks like CX will close its Canadian pilot base.

Agreed.

Long term having more star alliance airlines that are not part of the Air Canada/Lufthansa/United alliance is a real positive for competition and connectivity. Next up they should go after courting TAP Air Portugal.

Yes, that seems a great idea. But is there enough market demand for TAP at YVR? It seems like a long shot to me, but I hope I'm wrong.

I agree TAP Seems like a longshot. I'd say getting Rome on any carrier would be the next European city to get, it has way more tourist factor if anything. Outbound especiall. But I think that's a ways off, espcially given the state of the world. But longer term Rome makes more sense than anywhere in Portugal, IMO

Air Transat started a route to Rome did it not just a year or two ago? Unsure how that went load-wise.

Historically TAP connecting traffic had been focused on connecting Europe to Africa and South America through Lisbon.

In the last few years before COVID they had expanded quite a bit in the US as well as returning to Montreal and Toronto. Lisbon is not a fantastic airport for connections, however it is better than London or Paris. San Francisco was one of their recent additions.

Both TAP and SAS are two Star Alliance airlines with reasonable hubs outside of coordinated pricing with Air Canada but still in the loyalty program.

In fact, some years back, in a survey the results of which are not 'downloadable,' Rome was relatively high on a list of then-unserved destinations wanted from Vancouver.
Top of the list was Paris, which came into being back in 2015 on AF, also high was Melbourne, now normally served by AC. Rome might be an option if served by a mainline carrier, IMO.
Also, it would be a great hub for Southern Europe / Mediterrnaean destinations, as well as family, given the respectably large Italian population in Vancouver.
Potentially, the Seattle market - often a decisive factor in Vancouver traffic, and vice versa - could come into play with the easy connections to that market.
Before Air France arrived at YVR, a lot of YVR traffic went through SEA on AF. Additionally EK takes in YVR traffic through SEA with Westject correspndance.
I think that if Seattle is factored in as part of our destination market, YVR might have more going for it than realized. But that, of course, is wishful thinking at present.

I have not been to Paris since the Vancouver direct route start. When I have done it in the past it has been with a connection in Seattle and then Delta to Paris. I think the key there is Seattle is a hub for Delta and Paris is a hub for its partner Air France. I think it is flipped a couple times between Delta and Air France over the years.
