Salt Lake Gulls should be the name.

But if they decide to go with a name that hasn't been used before, I like the idea of utilizing the area. The Salt Lake Power would be cool - tho, I kinda think it sounds like a WNBA team.

Maybe the Salt Lake Westsiders like Mayor Mendenhall suggested.

Guys, the pun is right there. Salt Lake City Gulls. SLC Gulls. This needs to be the name.

If it has to be "Utah" in the name, which I have a feeling it might, then I like "Cutthroats" or "Trappers".

Utah will 99.9% be the lead name of the team, unfortunately. I hate how the Phoenix Cardinals and Phoenix Coyotes changed to "Arizona", but it's pandering to an entire state when one City/metro dominates. God help me if they decide to change the name to the Arizona Suns.

Utah Raptors is awesome, except for the Toronto Raptors.

Utah Pioneers? Kind of cool name for a team, sounds like it could be big-league, vaguely refers to the settlers of Utah, the adventurers of the regions' outdoors, and the pioneering/first home grown major team the state has ever had.

Still nervous about the NHL team getting a suburban arena.

I could see the baseball team going with Salt Lake solely because that has been the tradition with every baseball team that has played here.

With that said, the fact the MLB coalition is named Big League UTAH leads me to believe it'll be Utah too.

Yeah, I could unfortunately see NHL at the point. The only thing giving me hope is that Ryan Smith seems to have some sort of connection with big league utah and they DID mention the possibility of an NHL arena at the power district along with the stadium...

If we get the MLB team at the RMP site and the Jazz stay where they're at, I won't be as upset with an NHL team landing in the suburbs. Although, obviously I would prefer they land in SLC.

Having both on the RMP site, with the Fairpark almost across the street, would create a solid foundation for a potentially very vibrant entertainment district. Something that could become a tourist destination.
I'm thinking, something like Seattle's, "Seattle Center" but with restaurants and bars. If you were in Salt Lake on a layover, you could hop on TRAX, get off after two stops and you would be there. Take some pictures and go home. Maybe there could be some type of view point where people could look out at the skyline and the Wasatch mountains.

I know we mentioned how the MLB might impact the Jazz - but a NHL team would absolutely compete with the Jazz. So, I do wonder if Smith, assuming he's the owner, would even want them having an arena of their own. If they share an arena, they have to schedule around each other and each league would be cognizant of that. But if they're both in different arenas, would either league accommodate each's schedule so they don't play on the same night?

I don't know. Maybe.

But Arizona doesn't play in Footprint Center in Phoenix. But I did a quick look and the Coyotes and Suns both had home games on October 28th. I assume there's plenty more but I am not about to go through all that lol

Plenty of NHL and NBA teams share venues. Boston, Denver, Dallas, Philly, Chicago, DC, New York, Toronto, LA and Detroit. FC in Phoenix isn't designed for hockey as I'm sure the Jazz stadium is not either, the Yotes did play there for a number of years until the mistake was made to move them to Glendale.

Minor detail compared to picking a team name but any word on how this stadium will get funded?

Right but we're not talking about sharing. My point was that if Smith intends to build a new arena for the NHL team, and the Jazz remain at the Delta Center, he's likely directly pitting his two franchises against each other since they theoretically could both have home games on the same night.

If he keeps them in the same arena, they wouldn't. But that means one of two things:

He renovates the Delta Center so that it's more compatible for hockey.

Or he builds a new NBA/NHL arena, which could remove the Jazz from downtown (if it's built in the south valley).

This question is for anyone that knows - Isn’t the SOHI and the West Village developments pretty close to each other? Same approximate location?

What about the name Utah Union for the MLB team?

Gail Miller says the main reason for bringing the team is to create unity in the community. Union also evokes what happened at Promontory when east and west were brought together. I realize there is also the connotation of organized labor that comes with the word union. But I think if it was packaged right it has the potential to be a grand name that reminds everyone why the team is here in the first place: to create a feeling of community and union among all residents of Utah and beyond.

Please, someone, catch us up on the progress at the Post District. I'm anxious to see some updates on any progress since the last report from BSL, which was a while ago. Also, has there been some visible progress on Alta Terra? Then there's Izzy North and South, which should be making a very noticeable difference along that previously ugly stretch by now.

I appreciate the focus on MLB and NHL, it's very significant and I hope it continues. However, we could use a little more multitasking.

Anyone able to name this one?
