Why would it be? GCS has been surrounded for at least 100+ years now. It doesn't matter if the building is 500 ft tall or 5000 ft tall, it won't make much difference at the ground level with GCS.

not with one vandy right on the other side and chase coming in to the north.

IMO, it would be better if they add another supertall skyscraper in front of Grand Central, but in an Art Deco mixed with Modern style to match the transit complex itself. Idk if that is right since it could block MetLife Building, Chrysler Building and probably the Lincoln Building.

And while we're at it, they need to landmark the Lincoln Building. Criminal that it's still not legally protected.

They need to replace the Metlife building. I could see a megatall growing there. (ofc if they plan to do that they need to incorporate this now. https://www.6sqft.com/one-of-midtowns-most-ornate-building-lobbies-could-become-a-nyc-landmark/) Probably one of the only places where one could actually grow in NYC. Penn's heights won't be higher than Midtown East, downtown doesn't have a lot of space that I can tell only one being 2WTC and that's going to be around 1,300 ft to match the height of the original 2WTC. 57th street may have been able to get one, but now it might be too crowded and the air rights soaked up.

We'll just have to wait until another big rezoning like Midtown East.

This project is pretty much greenlighted already. Just going through the motions. A worthy edition!

And general improvement for the area. The city wins, Grand Central wins, the commuters win and the guy who sells Campylobacter infested hot dogs at the hot dog stand on the corner wins.

The only people that lose are those sweater wearing, organic, non-dairy, no taste, gluten free community board members that think this design is rubbish but eh, just ignore them. Let them eat their tasteless food, we are enjoying some fine NY pizza from Di Fara.

We've been witnessing history and arguably one of the most dramatic developments in the skyline. Both from a magnitude standpoint and from aesthetics. They often say NYC is a 20th Century city but these new crop of developments bring it into the 21st.

I agree that this is an unreal transformation of the skyline that we are witnessing. I'm only just getting into the NYC skyline (don't hate me but I'm from Philly and never went to NYC until 2 weeks ago) and when I look at pictures from like 6 years ago it looks like a different city. This is like a hyper version of Chicago's skyline growth from 1969-1974

What I find amazing is that there are a lot of clueless morons in the U.S. who think that NY is a dying city. The amount of stupidity in this country is incredible.

Chicago is still NYC's closest rival in the US. And when you see their skylines side by side, Chicago doesn't even come close.
LA can't build like NYC because of the fault line they sit on, there used to be a helicopter pad rule (even though it's gone the effects are still felt), and LA's urban sprawl. Ofc outside of the US, Toronto is probably the closest on the continent.

Outside of the continent however, there is major competition.

When I was visiting Manhattan at least annually between 2004 and 2009, it did look like a dying city because there were few new skyscrapers. This was especially obvious when I looked down from the ESB's 102th floor observatory in June 2009. To be honest it was quite a depressing sight; the just completed Bank of America and NYT buildings did not help much. Many people don't realize that Midtown has undergone unprecedented transformation in the past decade.

But even with the recently added skyscrapers, the aging infrastructure has continued to give the impression of a dying city. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

Let’s keep other cities out of this discussion, no need to mention any others. This is a New York proposal, and will only be visible on the NY skyline. Keep in mind not every city needs 1,600 ft for impact. We’re just lucky, but spoiled.

I doubt 350 is cancelled, Tower fifth? Who knows.
But them going silent isn't an indication of cancellation and it's actually quite common as far as I can tell.

I believe 350 Park is way out in the long term- Vornado have to focus their efforts on their Penn Plaza developments first.
