Yeah, THIS is how you build a striking tower. Shake-n-bake architects take note.

Any whispers on lighting yet?

Someone detailed it in this thread a few pages back.

Beautiful building, I think it will continue to look sharp with age as well. Boring glass boxes are fine enough for for infill/inland parcels, but hopefully this sets a quality standard for any prominent parcels that aren't yet accounted for. The design makes really great use of having two permanently unobstructed sides.

So Pelli died in 2019 and may have had some influence on this tower, but what is interesting is that it's probably the firm's most ambitious posthumous project. This isn't just a repetition of the themes he's pursued in the past (like the SF tower, tbh) it's one of the riskier designs in their portfolio. It's the kind of gamble you take to stay relevant after your founder departs, and it works. I think it will earn PCP commissions for years

I've been a skeptic about this building. I tend to be against big fat buildings that take up a whole city block. I think that sets a bad precedent and results in a sterile downtown. However...

I must admit that this is a signature tower for a new, mature Austin.

It feels weird to be here to witness a time when the towers that Austin will be known for are coming into being.

I can't help but reflect back on the Green Water Treatment Plant and how we all imagined it would end up looking. It turned out far better than we ever imagined.

Soon, we won't be able to imagine an Austin without this building.

I just really hope they don't slap a tacky Google logo on the side and ruin the clean look.

100% agreed! The city took a big chunk of land with zero tax base and turned it into a cash cow. This ad for Kathie Tovo's mentor sure hasn't aged well...

That's so bad it's comical, until you realize some people were like, "Yeah! That isn't right! I'm voting for her!"

She should be embarrassed
