Yup. Red River is closed from 9:00PM tonight until early next week for the canopy install.

Say what we will about this building but it looks pretty cool from the west.

If a 100 foot pipe sticking out of the top of the Fairmont can make the official height of the building higher by that amount, then a horizontal connector should increase the square footage of the Fairmont by 240K. Ok, that sounds pretty stupid...

I'm hoping someone can mount large led TV's in front of the base of the tower. If they need any help I myself would be willing to install them. Have prior experience.

So if they add to this "unfinished" spire...will it look better? Or just like really extracting the retractable antennae? Almost guaranteeing the damn thing is going to snap off! Hm
You had to own Wky Tky's to know what I'm intimating!

I really think they need to encase the spire. That's gonna look real basic and EVEN more of a downgrade from the already downgraded design.

I'm sure they'll add some height to the spire because of that extra piece that's up there now. I would have thought they'd be adding that this weekend, but I guess they were preoccupied with the skywalk.

As for the skin, I can take it or leave it. We ate at Joe's Crab Shack the other night and I had a horrible view of it through the trees, but the other views along Riverside sort of sold me on it. I sort of like the tiered look and the way it creates light and shadow on the spire. I think the full height of the spire is really going to add something nice to our skyline. Love it or hate it, but our skyline needed a spire to break up the monotony of our 400-foot plateau. I like the idea of it being something different.

So I had a chance to glance at my photos I've taken of the spire over the last week, and there are actually two more spire sections sitting on the roof waiting to go up. There's one lower more stout section with a "base tier" at its top and then another skinnier section. The skinnier section appears to be the last one because there's no base tier on its top, but it does have what appears to be a beacon bulb at its top. The beacon looks to be clear instead of red, so it might be one of those strobe lights you see on really tall buildings and tv/radio towers.

I noticed the same thing as I was parked on I-35 around 5:00PM Friday afternoon.

That would be interesting to see a strobe beam, though at 595 feet, I kinda have to wonder for people who live around that height in the Austonian and will live in the Independent would deal with beams of light blasting through their condos all night long.

It could also be a beam that shoots straight up into the sky.

Yeah it does! And from that angle the spire looks fitting, especially after its topped out. Maybe they saved the best side to show off to the JW guests. It looks really impressive driving south on 35 into the north side. It can't be understated how much it adds to the skyline by extending it towards the east like Spring does to the west. I'm not at all disappointed aside for I wish it was a bit taller.

The skywalk platform over Red River is in place, and Red River is reopened.

For the blank wall or just any part of the building?

It doesn't specify where nor are there any plans given by this subcontractor.

I'm assuming it'll just be illuminated "Fairmont" signage along several areas around the podium, visible from the street. You can see it in the top right corner of the podium below. BIG might also handle and illuminate those three banners, it seems within their portfolio to handle that while they're at it.

This could also be general site signage. Parking signs, garage signage, wayfinding signs (like valet, lobby signage, etc).

All in all probably nothing terribly interesting or defining.

Here's some close-ups of the spire from today. As mentioned in this thread, there are two more sections to go. I also took some of the bridge over Red River. It was in shadow this morning, but the pictures came out alright. The full resolution pictures are here: http://imgur.com/a/dTW4Z

Edited to add: I'm not exactly sure how they are going to get those last two pieces up to the top of the spire. Judging the human-scale by the ladder on the side of the spire, those last two pieces are pretty hefty. I can't imagine they are going to carry them up? I guess we'll see. I'm sure they have a plan.

Nice pics, as always. I think its safe to say that this spire as seen here is what will be the finished product, no sliding a covering over it because obviously it would cover the beacon on the tip of the last piece. The connecting flanges with what looks like decorative fins look ok and may actual enhance the lighting. I'm not crazy about the permanent ladder, but it shouldn't be that noticeable from the ground. I'm not sure why its taking so long to put the last two pieces on. I'm also not sure why this annoys me, but I guess I prefer instant gratification which is pretty much impossible with construction. Its just two little sections, put the damn things up already...sorry...
