There's a similar blue one at the intersection of 3rd and West.

They would have been better off having seating in its place that doubles as art. Have it be practical and decorative in the way that some new bike racks have been for example.

If they do provide any seating there, it had better look like a toilet....

Okay, I'm done.

That, my friend, was well said, and funny. Wish I said it.

I think the artist is getting the dialog, albeit probably mostly negative, that he was hoping to get. As I mentioned once before, NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon said he would rather have people boo him than to hear nothing at all. And to dare add to drummer's awesome post, don't forget the Charmin...

Took this while approaching downtown from south, then added the Independent to give a perspective of how it would look from i35.

Walked by the library last night and saw the bridge lit up. Snuck past a barricade to take an up-close photo.

Sort of an uncommon view of the skyline.

I'll say. I don't think I've ever seen that elevated angle before. What's that in the lower right corner, a minimum security prison compound??

I believe that's part of the Texas HHS campus

I think you're right. It's definitely a part of all of those state buildings there by Central Market, south of the Triangle. Those could so easily be consolidated and the land sold/leased to developers to maximize the use of that area, by the way...

The tree canopy in this shot is so dense! It's the other kind of density that I like.

I'm very surprised the state hasn't already moved on consolidating operations all around there (and the Dept of Safety campus at Lamar/Koenig). Seems like a huge tax burden for not much actual "building".

The state starts construction on a North Austin Campus this year. There's not a separate thread for it, but it's been mentioned in the Capitol Complex thread and probably the update thread.

Here's the link to info about Phase I. It includes a 7-story office building, a parking garage and a central plant. Somewhere in all the recent documentation linked to in the Capitol Complex thread it said the official ground breaking for this would be in the 4th Qtr.
