That looks like an awesome project. It ties in with SA current architectural style.

24 story hotel planned to be built on top of historic 4 story Joske's-Dillards department store, 28 total floors. Sorta boxy but I like it.

Ok I read that whole LA Times article and while it does seem like they actually traveled here to observe, they made it seem like country clubs and gated communities didn't exist prior to the new residents' arrival. It makes it sound like Stone Oak and Dominion exist because of them and not how they were already established neighborhoods with MANY local families living there.

I read a bio of a notable architect, one time, and when it came to hotel developments, he stated there's psychological reasoning to having a hotel with interior curved hallways, being that occupants of the hotel feel safer, rather than with straight, long hallways in boxy hotels.

I've given much thought to that and I don't if that's valid or not. What do you think?

I'm thinking in terms of Steve Wynn's curved Bellagio Hotel and his other spectacular curved hotel casino towers in Las Vegas, a design which he duplicated in Macau!

Phil Bakke to bring urban flair to Northeast San Antonio

Quote:
Tricia Lynn Silva Reporter/Project Coordinator- San Antonio Business Journal

Phil Bakke, president of Bakke Development Corp., has plans for a new apartment community in Northeast San Antonio.

Known as Urban Crest, it will span a total of 185,000 square feet over 5.6 acres of land at 3819 Harry Wurzbach. Plans call for 208 apartment units that will be spread out over two, four-story buildings that will face each other.

The look of Urban Crest is more urban in feel — making it a concept that is sure to stand out among the garden-home multifamily communities in the area.

Locally based Alamo Architects — a company with a proven track record when it comes to urban developments —has been hired to design Urban Crest.

There's more here. This is going to be a very nice tower. The diagram shows it at around 400 feet.

New Joske's tower design is now 30 floors and is more appropriate for Alamo Plaza.

Such a beautiful building. Sadly, San Antonio's Hysterical Society chooses to continue not approving these beautiful buildings that come to the forefront of San Antonio citizens, this city will never progress into the future, such as Austin, Houston and many others. If this society continues to control the business opportunities coming into the city – more and more will leaving (AT&T) and more companies deciding where to go will choose to go elsewhere. Chicago, for example, has more historical buildings with much more history to them than San Antonio, yet they are progressing faster than we are; the same goes for New York City. I see an abandoned downtown filled with nothing but outdated historical landmarks mixed in with new buildings that look the same in the nearest future. Sad, quite sad, indeed!

If I had known, I would have gone to that meeting and stated so many facts in support of this building in the future of San Antonio. The blight of blame is strictly on the people restricting the many opportunities San Antonio, Texans has had come to them, yet continues to have and continues, with the above project as an example, here and there, projects great projects/ buildings come to the citizens of San Antonio, but may not for much long - it is, after all, quite expensive to be going through so much red tape and nonsense by particular sintizens.

The design was not approved and sent back for a new design. S.A. does a fine job with adaptive re-use of historical structures. It is not filled with abandoned historical buildings and it's safe to say has the most revered downtown in the state of Texas. Historical buildings never go outdated, they are historical landmarks. I'm not happy with the HDRC's decision, hopefully the next design, is a winner.

Yes...close. Based on the presentation (triangulation variables), the tower will be ~350' tall (a little less than 12' per level; based on 30 stories).

Nice building...Great for downtown SA!

In what world is it 350 feet? It's clearly a hair just below 400 feet.

P.S.

Can the mods remove the unnecessary posts from the people not from San Antonio. And can they save their comments for their own city's threads.

It seems new residential structures are popping up everywhere in the downtown area, but I am more excited when the Hemisfair project finally reveals it's final plans. This will define downtown San Antonio! It won't any longer just be Austin that is building up its urban residential stock in the downtown area and core. Great news, indeed!
