It's a completely different shade from what's used in Vancouver.

That's probably the plan.. it'll make it a lot easier for them to renovate the mall if it's vacant, and cheaper since they won't have to pay out for terminating leases.

I suspect most of them are just seeing out their current leases and opting not to re-up while the construction is ongoing.
I don't think they're (all) gone for good, and if anything, I suspect you'll see a lot of them back when the mall is renovated.

Same thing happened at Station Square in Metrotown when they were starting the Towers construction.
A good number of the tenants who closed down prior, returned along with new tenants and there'll probably be more once they complete the central boulevard and remaining towers.

You want to see what a(n actual) dying mall looks like, drive up the road and take a gander at Lougheed mall.

Every time I pass by there these days it almost seems like 5 more stores have closed down from the previous visit.
If not for Walmart and London Drugs, that place would be a total wasteland.

Shape's City of Lougheed project can't come fast enough for them.

Was the post about the store opening deleted? I was just gonna say how it's funny that Sears opened a cheap fast fashion store to try and help them but they did so in a mall that's likely not gonna get enough foot traffic. It's likely been repeated at other dead and dying malls. They should open those up near high schools!

*Whoops, i saw it in the retail thread!

Surprised the AE and La Senza stores held on for so long in there, they were never busy, ditto mmmuffins.

FYI: That Jugo Juice has been closed for almost 3 years. The Scotiabank next to it only recently finished its expansion into that space. Also, FWIW, that Toys 'R Us store was never intended to be permanent. As Spr0ckets said, most of those tenants will be dying to return once everything is finished.

For those that do, at least they make it up with everything else we don't have here.

Wow that video is awesome. I'm so excited for this especially because it is only a 30 minute walk from my place!

Sweet video! Very cool that they included Concord Brentwood, Solo District and Gilmore Station in the future skyline shot.

Well the first 3 towers are sold out so I assume they will or have started on the 3rd one. And the 4th one is rental so that could theoretically start now too!

This project looks great in that video!!

The spacing between the first 6 towers at Brentwood looks pretty generous compared to the Concord or Gilmore projects.
The number of towers along the back of the mall has increased from 4 to 5.
The office tower is missing!

I also like that they included the neighbouring projects. Looks sweet and it's all underway! I just hope we will see a variation of building styles as 11 identical towers would be very boring.

I do think that the video makes the towers look like they are further apart than they will be. One has to remember that all towers will be massive and the site is not that huge IRL, so it will feel very dense.

I also don't understand why they wanted to build the surface street for cars? Why not force traffic from all directions underground and make it a pedestrian-only area. I can see that there will allways be line-ups of cars stopping for pedestrians everywhere.

So essentially Shape will no longer be building an office tower in the middle... and reducing the number of towers from 13 to 11

That office tower literally feet away from residential seemed absurd. It overwhelms two of the residential towers at the back of the property.

The new video makes the development look amazing. Will be impressive once completed in a few years.

BTW, how much longer can Carter hold out? I imagine the pressure from developers will be overwhelming given that the property is essentially encircled by skyscrapers.

Really amazing video. It captures the transformation of the whole region, no doubt in my mind this will surpass Metrotown in time. I also like the new configuration of the Brentwood town center. It just look cleaner without the building right in the middle. Besides I love fountains, I can see 3 in this video, One central one as one arrives, and 2 smaller one on each each end of the boulevard. Amaaaaazing.!!

Brentwood is turning out amazing. I think this is the best example of a TOD done properly in Canada.
