Maybe 4 of them to the left are re-clads of Federal Office complexes, but yes, lot of mid-rises u/c in Hull and one high-rise (fifth one from the left will rise 26 floors).

New toll on the Confederation Bridge will be $20 rather than $50.25

In addition, the fares for all federal ferry services on the east coast will be cut by 50%

Changes effective August 1st.

This change is significant, and, will certainly drive traffic on the Confederation Bridge, particularly between PEI and Moncton. Lots of Islanders will feel a whole lot better about coming over to visit Champlain Place and Costco, and lots of Monctonians will now not give any second thoughts to going over to the island for a round of golf, or to go to the beaches on a day trip. Cavendish Beach is only one hour 45 minutes away!. It's no further than a drive to Saint John from Moncton. I know I will more seriously consider day trips now.

This is what this is all about - driving interprovincial commerce to help thwart economic decline in the face of Drumpfian tariffs.

Great news indeed for PEI, and those that love to travel there.

Next, we need to slash the outrageous ("highway robbery", if you will pardon the pun) tolls on the 407 in the GTA. Absofuckinglutely ridiculous rates.

Cutting tolls might ultimately make more money. Not sure how they haven't figured that out yet.

And yet I'm already seeing the Monkey Trolls spamming comment threads about how this is going to raise taxes and make the entire country pay and so forth.

Great news for PEI and Maritimers, and for Tourism and the Economy in general. I'm too far away from PEI for it to be on my travel radar, but 20$ feels like the sweet spot for a day or weekend trip cost, especially for a solo traveler. (Or for families).

As you said, it'll probably make more money for the government just from people having more liquidity and flexibility, than it costs to offset those tolls.

I fully expect Moncton Costco to become PEI's second biggest city this coming long weekend once the prices drop.

This got me wondering - was the Confederation Bridge built with an allowance to add 2 more lanes (for a total of 4) if it becomes needed in the future - or would they have to twin the whole thing ?

No. two lanes with a breakdown lane. You could fit three lanes of traffic on there but not four.

You would have to build a second identical bridge to double traffic flow. This might however be a reasonable idea at some point as the lifespan of the bridge is about 100 years. Perhaps build a relief bridge around 2050, then, about 2100, build a replacement bridge for the current span, and keep on doing this every 50 years, replacing the older part of the crossing while maintaining traffic flow on the newer span.

Sort of what’s happening in St. Catharines - MTO is building a twin span of the Garden City Skyway, will shift traffic onto it while it does an extensive reconstruction of the existing bridge, then have both bridges with 4 lanes, one bridge for each direction, with modern shoulders vs. The existing 6 lanes with no shoulders.

Meanwhile in Ottawa, we'll just lose the bridge with the highest amount of pedestrian and cycling crossings for five to 10 years, but that's ok, because it carries the fewest cars.

Thanks to Frump, this will be the least anticipated major new border crossing in our nation's histories. I may never cross that thing.

Has anybody ever taken the tunnel across the river? I've always wanted to drive through it.

I've taken the tunnel. It kinda sucks. (Long line of cars, stop and go...mostly stop). Not that easy to access from the freeways on either side. Single lanes each direction. Nothing exciting, except feeling relief when you are finally through it.
