Pop Music Center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan / Emergent

Award-winning architectural studio Emergent unveiled their design for the new Pop Music Center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. This design is intended to re-invigorate the Port of Kaohsiung as a cultural destination through world class public attractions, cutting edge music infrastructure, green energy technology, and lush landscaping. The design is based on creating two buildings located at anchor points on the site– one lifting into the air and the other embedded in the ground. By lifting partially off the ground, the Pop Music Center creates a huge shaded public plaza underneath the building. It also creates a protected space for the 12,000 seat public amphitheater, so that events can be planned year-round and in various weather conditions. The nine Performance Halls are organized inside bubbles nested between skin layers.

I guess it was inevitable that Foster would do a version of the Sydney Opera House at some point.

Also recently finished from national architecture hero Bjarke Ingels(BIG): 8-tallet(the figure eight)

It really is quite a complex building with many sides, and cleverly thought out.

In 2009 a prestigious American Foundation and Beijing University invited Kokaistudios to design the building for the new faculty of law located in a prestigious location within the historical campus of China leading University. This particular site, where the pagoda symbol of the university is standing, required considerable effort in terms of design in order to find architectural answers that could satisfy and meld in a harmonious way the heritage elements; the beautiful natural environment and the new contemporary building. This prestigious project, completed in October 2010, is considered the milestone of a new era for Beijing University, and a symbol for better and more environmentally sustainable standard of living for the future University Community and for architectural buildings within that community.

Location: Brixton, London, England

he Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton, London Borough of Lambeth, broadens not only the educational diversity of this active and historical part of London but also augments the built environment in a predominantly residential area. This Academy presents itself as an open, transparent and welcoming addition to the community’s local urban regeneration process. The strategic location of the site within two main residential arteries naturally lends the built form to be coherent in formation. The building assumes a strong urban character and identity which is legible to both the local and neighboring zones. It offers a learning environment that is spatially reassuring thereby being able to engage the students actively. The design of the building to create a healthy atmosphere as a milieu for progressive teaching routines.
