That's correct, it'll come down July12+13
I can't beleive anyone would be stupid enough to think it would come down via helicopter.

Well, I believed it. Helicopters are used extensively in the construction industry, like moving HVACs to roof tops, moving materials, transmission tower construction, cell phone towers etc, etc. I believe a helicopter was used to mount the "W" sign on the old Woodwards building. The CN Tower was partially built by helicopter. There are many more instances.
So it not so "unbelievably stupid" to think that they may have used a helicopter.

I think the difference is putting things on TOP vs. taking things from the side of a building.

If you're placing something on top and you have a gust of wind... so what... you just wait a minute until it calms down... from the side... uh oh. There goes the building facade.

I'll chat with some guys in orange and yellow vests and let you know the latest on the helicopter.

What I have heard is that the helicopter idea has been turned down due to insurance costs.

So instead they will be using a Hydrogen filled Blimp.

I didn't think it was that ridiculous either that the crane atop Shangri-la would be moved off by helicopter.....but then again, where are his sources?

Seriously, there's no way a series of cranes can dismantle an overhead crane and lower it down piece by piece without having the last piece or the last crane sitting up there waiting to be taken down with the help of a helicopter.

At some point, there will be one large last piece left up there with no other crane to lower it down. That last crane will need another crane to lift it down. You have to get the last piece off somehow. Think about it.

I'm sure if you use google you'll be able to find countless videos of cranes being dismantled w/o helicopters. As a bonus you'll probably see lots of people in orange vests.

aren't they just using a ground based crane to get the rest down?

I swear to god i saw a diagram put up awhile back showing how it would be done.

I asked my Uncle who owns a Crane company and he says the highest a ground based crane can reach is 450 feet.

No helicopters required.

Using a helicopter would be easier and a lot cooler looking Except of course when a big wind comes up and the crane goes through the building and drops on the street. Watch out...

The temporary derrick crane is erected on top of the tower and is used to lower the pieces of the construction crane from the top of the tower. This was done for One Wall Centre.

I don't think name calling is appropriate or allowed under the rules.
Plus towerguy3 is getting too much abuse on this site.
If you don't agree with him and you can't be polite don't make a reply at all.

I'm through being civil to TG3, I've tried hard enough for too long. If he is too lazy/stupid to read back several posts in a thread he has been active in since day one then he certainly doesn't deserve it.

Respect is be earned, not doled out with little regard. If TG3 ever settles down and starts making some meaningful contributions to this forum then I will treat him with some civility.

I don't think you understand how annoying, irritating and just plain stupid he gets at times...
