Do you mean the north side of the 202 and 40th St?

Yes, correct. I forgot that the 202/10 split is well west of that location.
The location does seem prime for a medium-density mixed use project, with residential toward the north and office / commercial / industrial closer to the freeway, but no one asked!

The market doesn't like that here--it didn't respond to the zoning for exactly that. A friend of mine used to manage apartments there and that area was rough. I could see a manufacturing facility perhaps but it's a hard sell for employees.

It's impressive from the live cam at City Hall.

From my perspective, I was afraid one of the high-rises was on fire. RIP Alta Warehouse

Well that's disappointing. That was turning out to be an impressive and very large project. Hopefully the developers have some insurance, so they can maybe start over. :/

According to AZ Central article, it was about 40% completed. Hopefully this gets restarted pretty soon.

It was pretty gusty last night too so good work by firefighters in putting out this blaze quickly and not letting it spread

If it was unguarded, this was bound to happen. There wasn't something going up in a worse part of town.

Was it found to be arson?

Unless I'm mistaken and something was just recently announced, baseless speculation by combusean does not help. For all we know, it could've been faulty wiring in the project. It was all over social media last night that everyone was 100% sure it was the protesters yet no protesting was even happening around the area

Let's hope it wasn't protestors (or no-gooders related to the protests). If it was found to be, it may not be covered by insurance. I suppose every instance could be different or people may add additional coverages to a site, but typically damage due to riots/civil unrest are exceptions to insurance policies and not covered. (Source: my friend is an insurance agent).

I heard it was from a group called the Boogaloo Bois are tagging buildings in PHX with hearts to mark the buildings for Arson. Numerous buildings have been found with these tags below the tracks and both the fire department and police departments are looking into it. Molotov cocktails were found in and around the scene. This hasn't yet been reported in the media, I just have some sources close to the matter.

From what Mr. RE said, this could be considered arson, which is usually covered, but again, who knows.

You've got a homeless encampment across the street that are associated with accidentally burning buildings when their cooking fire goes awry, people that hate these buildings for gentrifying and torch them (which is why they are so costly to insure), people breaking curfew, gunshots heard in the vicinity. It's not that baseless to speculate on arson--sometimes they burn as a result of a construction accident, but that's known upfront, not investigated. We had a string of these fires in Oakland and every time they burned in the night it was arson.

And who knows, it could have been started by a lit cigarette for its proximity to the 7th Ave bridge. Just seems like a high risk building.

I guess some "Boogaloos" got charged last week in Nevada for conspiring to use protests as a pretext for violence, and they were in possession of molotov cocktails, so this doesn't sound totally far-fetched to me. Disappointing if true.

I'd be more afraid of the Sunrise Movement than these Boogaloos (even though they are horrible). It would explain how all of this is becoming more of a global issue now, but I digress.
