I don't see this getting built in its current form. The architect and the owner are based in Nashville and aren't familiar with the local construction market and lack of skilled labor. New Orleans doesn't possess enough skilled labor to pull off this type of design for the same price per sf as Nashville.

Per my taste, it's a bit busy, I think it would fit into the area better if it were simplified. The height is nice and its an improvement over the small building originally proposed for the site. I hope they pull off something nice!

Not sure thats true at this time... much bugger buildings are being built at this time around town and ive seen some pretty aggressive price oer square foot

Im submitting a new project of my own to the hdlc for february meeting. Will share some concepts to get feedback... my main goals are to balance design with cost so im sure will be some compromise to be made but hope to end up with a good project that blends in well

If you look closely, it appears in these pics they may be repainting the ceiling black in preparation for the wood in lieu of the mesh material?

Perhaps the rumor is true? This would be a huge win!

It has to be true... because otherwise it would have been done by now

no question its being painted black from this angle... cant see any other reason to do that other than change in ceiling material.. that color wouldnt work with the mesh material

but wouldnt you think if they were painting the whole thing they would have more than one lift working on this ?

There were a couple of $4 million change orders at the last board meeting...maybe it's a very late change?

Love the Nick's Place design. Tulane Ave still has a huge amount of potential for growth.

Anyone know what the plan is for the Delgado Nursing School site? Is that 100k sf going to be new construction? It looks like there might be some room for a new building on the site, but not a huge amount of space.

Also looks like the LSU board will be voting to start the due diligence process on the Charity Redevelopment.

it seems like delgado is taking over all of LSUs current space next to charity as well as the two buildings on claiborne that they sort of use... lsu is moving all their offices to the old Interim Charity building thats currently empty.. makes sense since its closer to where the doctors and students actually practice.

Also I have a good feeling about the Charity Project going the distance.. its lack of reliance of public money save for historic tax credits (which are available to everyone) it just seems like the most probable proposal to actually result in a real facility.

Charity Hospital development plans go before LSU board Friday for a preliminary vote

https://www.theadvocate.com/new_orle...843c81b3e.html

The redevelopment of Charity Hospital will likely move one step closer to reality on Friday when the LSU Board of Supervisors is expected to vote to give a development team a chance to go through the historic building and firm up its plans.

The deal, if approved, would be the furthest any plan for redeveloping the giant building on Tulane Avenue has gone since it was shuttered after Hurricane Katrina.

It would solidify the choice of 1532 Tulane Partners to take over the state-owned site and implement a $245 million plan for redeveloping the building.

But that doesn't mean the proposal is a done deal or that work to convert the 80-year-old hospital building into the proposed housing, retail, office space and research labs will begin soon.

God that complex of Art Deco buildings around and including Charity is so awesome. They all need to be preserved... tear down that hulking old VA garbage pile.
