On a Facebook post Wayne Long said he was told construction will start next month at Fundy Quay. A commenter also said they think crane going up this month.

Was at the City Market today at lunch. Place is pretty sad with empty stall and underutized spaces. What ever happened to the strategic plan that was supposed to be completed last fall? Was that project abandoned?

I think it got slammed by virtual work / hybrid work.

Do you mean it was abandoned? The Market is in dire need of some direction. Another fail by the City.

Looks a lot better from the front, plus they may have more gold trim to instal. Actually looks good on skyline from a distance

Hmmm well, OK but it still bothers me that with all the multi unit residential building in recent years the vast majority are boring 3-6 story boxes with little or no architectural interest. I know that costs money but it's still unfortunate.

Even the conceptual drawings for 99 King looked like a prison.

Telegraph Journal reporting that the Madawaska Maliseet First Nation is eyeing the former TJ property on Crown St for a possible casino.

The Wellington was designed by local firm Acre and personally think it looks good - rather have that than a cookie cutter building ordered from a catalogue online. 99 King is also designed by a local firm - you have to envision it from the harbour bridge - the windows and other features plays off of other building characteristics on skyline (such as same look of windows as law courts and IOL). Again it’s subjective but would rather have that design as opposed to your standard steel skeleton and glass curtain cookie cutter building.

Personally I hope not. In any event, can't believe that property is big enough for a casino.

It’s almost 50,000 square feet with large parking lot. Be curious what proposal is. Would that mean zero tax property tax revenue for city? These types of places do draw some out of town visitors so good for restaurants and hotels to a certain degree. Went to play pool at Doolys and was shocked to see 95% of their business was from huge VLT zone and they all looked like zombies lol. Take business from them for sure but kinda scary the addiction that is kinda hidden from plain sight. So yea mixed feelings on this one ….

I can't believe there would be no property tax - if it is "owned" by first nations I still think it would have to be on reserve land to qualify.

There is a "First Nations" business park in Moncton, across the TCH from the Caledonia Industrial Park. They purchased the land and had it consecrated as reserve land, hence, although it is within the city of Moncton, there is no property tax. Nevertheless, they negotiated an agreement with the city to pay money "in kind" for municipally supplied services, including fire and policing, so it amounts to the same thing (more or less).
