Samantha Newlove, a traffic control worker, said the incident happened as concrete was being pumped into a chimney on the building, which burst, toppled over and pushed over a scaffolding tower, pinning workers underneath.

I want to know the math that goes into pouring a 65 foot column of cement into a 100 year-old chimney. Obviously it was being turned into a decorative feature but the base must of been under an incredible amount of pressure.

It would be about 5bar (70psi) at the base when filled to the top. That math is simple; density x height x acceleration of gravity.

The trickier math would be finding the strength of the old masonry.

Drone video of the collapsed chimney

https://globalnews.ca/news/10108808/...nelson-street/

Zepf: This document has the BMU diagrams for the tower on page 91

https://vancouver.ca/files/cov/969-b...x-d-part-1.pdf

Actually confirmation of the infilled concrete for the chimneys in the conservation report:

Quote:
Stone chimneys will be infilled with reinforced concrete and drilled pins placed to anchor the stones. In the enclosed areas the
chimney will be wrapped with a concrete wall on the outside and concrete fill on the inside.
https://web.archive.org/web/20190719.../Pg140-155.pdf

You assume they were filling it in stages since it would go all the way to the ground floor (or the new basement)

Thanks! They flew the BMU parts to the North side, unable to see it being assembled, one day I'll see it roll around the South side.

Today, white hats (VIPs)

The progress as of today.

From the article I quoted in the Rumour thread:

...In Vancouver, a 57-storey luxury condo tower downtown known as The Butterfly was supposed to be completed in 2023. But real estate observers estimate it is a year away still, and records show there are no completed sales of the condo units yet....

Don't sales only close when the building is completed and occupancy has been granted? It wouldn't make sense to close on a condo that isn't finished yet.

Yes that is correct, a pretty strange note in the article.

Mostly interior work at this point, not a ton of exterior gif action for Zep to help us with.

Liking those night pictures

A milestone GIF is going to happen soon. Only 2 more curved glass to be installed.
The crane has been busy flying up patio doors on to the balconies (they're up to around the 45th floor)

Today, setting up scaffolding for installing last 2 curve panels.

Today, the last (from my estimation / quick count) of 2000 curved piece of glass going in.
