Assuming that "dope" has a positive connotation, I couldn't agree more. I wonder why so many insipid, mid-rise buildings got the OK, and why so many small, bitty buildings in the CBD got the OK, messing and cluttering up would have been a sleek cityscape.

I've been wondering lately ... "when will we get our next 'tall', what will it be like, and where will it be?" ....

The next tall is the Burrard Gateway project. Then the Office on W. Hastings one day and the Telus Residential project I guess.

I think this building is great and one of the better ones built lately. I really can't wait to see this at night with the "rainfall" effect it's supposed to have. That is still on right? or did the city kill that lol

oh please.....

So what then? You would have preferred them having built another one of those redundant yaletown residential high rises? Anyways I'm not saying this building is perfect in every way. I'm saying its a far cry from almost every other building in this city and its for the better. Like I said, Vancouver needs more of these (The Georgia), not the same old.

Never heard of that one. Is there a render of it anywhere? I'd like to know a bit about it.

On my way home from work today I noticed they were installing the triangular fins on the south-east part of the roof.

Pics anyone?

Here you go -
Pic by me today:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I was wondering what the triangular metal bracket would be for on the tallest upright (about 1/3 way up on the column)
- it seems like it'll be for a cable support of the cantilevering roof -
and from the looks of DLeung's model pic, it loks like a few of the upper baconies will also have the cable supports.

I think the two triangular forms put a nice finish to the tower and give the building a more slender and elegant appearance. Thanks for posting the pictures!

Hotel Georgia sign

I snapped a quick pic this morning of the new "Hotel Georgia" sign sitting on the truck. Don't know which side it will go up on.

They installed it on top of the glass awning on the Georgia Street side, more towards Howe as opposed to dead centre.

Yeah, it's really off centre - my guess is that "Rosewood" will appear to the left of it - and maybe even a logo in the middle of the two, like on their website:

http://www.rosewoodhotelgeorgia.com/
But the font used on the sign look to be pretty retro.

While it is off-centre for the building, it is dead on-centre for the entrance to the lobby from Georgia Street. Here's my photo from mid-afternoon today showing the sign as seen from across the street.
