Has anyone heard anything new about the potential third Comcast tower?
The fence has been up for a few months, and a demolition permit notice was put on the 2 story building around that time. But nothing has happened since. Waiting patiently. (and see what Summers said above^). Only a matter of time is my guess, between LPT and Comcast ... only a matter of time.

So then , is it safe to assume 8th.& Market will remain a parking lot for at least the next five years , preventing development of any
kind at that prime location ......

I think having East Market and the Fashion Outlets up and running, and hopefully re-vitalizing the area, will eventually push for this location to be development. It just might be a few years.

Or be a boon for the low-tax parking lot easy-to-run business

Them renewing their permit doesn't mean they can't decide to develop it before the next five years is up.

So, here's my one new item to learn today. What blocks/streets make up Newbold? I don't think I've ever heard of it.

"Newbold" is the new name for the eastern portion of Point Breeze. The neighborhood runs from Broad Street to 18th Street, Washington Ave to Snyder Ave.

Was walking by yesterday and saw windows going in on the right side. Today I saw windows in on the left side but didn't grab a pic. Here it is from 7/08/17:

My sister moved into Point Breeze at 18th and Federal during the gentrification start a few years back when "Newbold" was used to market new development in the area. Fast forward to now and Point Breeze is loving used instead for her intersection (@ American Sardine Bar). Point Breeze holds provenance, respect, and (now) trend.

While "Newbold" doesn't hold as embarrassing a design-by-committee feeling as "Midtown Village" (vomit), which is happily not used in the article above, I believe residents in this area simply want to use Point Breeze now. Now that it offers a better image of up-and-coming and not the delapitated reputation that probably spurred the creation of "Newbold" in the first place.

2400 Market

I noticed also that they're continuing to slowly demolish the part of the center section facing the river. What's interesting is that you can now clearly see that this is where the ramp between the floors was located, which was utilized when the building was built for an automotive company. See Philaphilia article from 2012:

http://philaphilia.blogspot.com/2012/02/mystery-building-of-week-february-27th.html

I also found this about Gomery-Schwartz Motor Car Company (which also occupied a building at Broad St & Cherry St, now part of PAFA as the Hamilton Building):

http://hudsonjet.hetclub.org/hudsondealerships_pa-sd.html

Quote:
2400 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA. The building at 2400 Market Street was constructed in 1916 by Gomery-Schwartz Motor Car Company who were Hudson-Essex distributors for the Philadelphia area. Gomery-Schwartz had been involved with Hudson since 1911, soon after the company was founded, and seem to have been one of the most active Hudson distributors. The lot on which the building was placed was vacant in 1915 and briefly considered for the proposed Convention Hall later built on Civic Center Boulevard in West Philadelphia and now demolished. 2400 was designed as a service station and receiving point for Hudson cars shipped by rail from the manufacturer in Detroit. It was never used for assembly. Gomery-Schwartz occupied two or three floors and rented out the remainder of the building. The customers service entrance with up and down ramps can be seen in the Market Street photo and the small sign above carries the familiar Hudson triangle logo. Contemporary news reports describe it as “a factory with mountains of materials and an army of employees turning out 2000 cars per year.” The owner’s name was changed to Guaranty Investment soon after it was occupied but that entity was probably a part of Gomery-Schwartz.

I thought this was old news ever since Anne Fadullon was brought on to intitiate this objective and to see it through. I vividly remember seeing a release, although it may have been internal that I just happened to get my eyes on, which lauded the successes of the reorganization to date. This was about two months ago.

Glad this is happening. This works to help developers and improve that city reputation of ours that "makes doing business here difficult."

Also it is public news that Gary Jastrzab is retiring as Executive Director of the Philadelphia City Planning Commision. I don't know what the reorganization means for his replacement but I would LOVE to see Deputy Director Eleanor Sharpe get the direct promotion. I know race should not play into anything like hiring, but I just love the idea of that fiery Jamaican jerk-spiced badass taking on the same role as an unbaked Pillsbury crescent roll like Ed Bacon.

this has been in works since voters approved a couple years ago. Proposed by everyone's favorite anti development Council Prez.

So much so in fact that the Newbold Neighborhood Association changed their name to the East Point Breeze Neighbors: http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2016/08/26/newbold-neighbors-association-name/

Newbold was a flash in the pan that exacerbated fears of gentrification and I wouldn't be surprised to see it go away entirely in the next few years.

Does anyone know when the 3 or 4 missing windows on FMC will go in? I noticed the thread has been closed and the building marked complete.

GoPuff debuts new 30,000 SF Philadelphia headquarters

Quote:
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney went to the headquarters of an expanding millennial-run business to tout the city a good place to grow.

Go Puff, the convenience store that delivers to your door, was the brainchild of millennials when they were at Drexel University and too busy to go buy everything from beer to munchies. Co-founder Rafael Ilishayev says they had a basic idea and ran with it.

"We filled our own use case by providing a service that will do it for you on a affordable basis for a very low delivery charge of only $1.95, so same price as your local convenience store delivered in under 30 minutes," he said.

Mayor Jim Kenney says this is an example of young businesspeople deciding to stay in Philadelphia with some help from city agencies.

"Making sure they understand there's a friendly face/person in the commerce department and in the city government, that will address their problems," he said.

Kenney says he hopes other entrepreneurs follow suit.

Go Puff now delivers in 18 cities from Atlanta, to Portland to Tucson, but cut the ribbon on a new 30,000 square-foot headquarters at 454 N. 12th Street in Philadelphia.
