...ok, so maybe I'm ignorant.....but can someone tell me why this building isn't getting a reinforced concrete "mat" like other buildings (ie:Trump) ?

can someone tell me wats going on in chicago?...im mean they are building condos like there no tomarrow...are more and more people moving to the area or do they want to live in the downtown area....just curious...either way makes the skyline grow and lets us watch...

There is no tomorrow. Haven't you heard?

People are moing back to the city, but I don't know if they're mostly from the burbs or from elsewhere.

This building is getting a mat for the tower. In fact, its supposed to be poured next week.

Hey can someone go take a picture of the site? I've been told the decking/formwork for the first above ground slab is going up. Thanks!

is that the entire foot print of the tower??? if someone has already asked just give me a post # to refer to. i dont know if its the perspective of the picture it just seems so small and more square and less rectangular. IMO.

^ well, friend, I don't really think that footprint is that small. for perspective, that caison in the foreground corner is probably about the size of a king-size bed, or bigger

Its in the general area shown in the picture...the tower is situatied to the left side of the podium when looking from this angle.

Those holes are for the elevator core springs (if the elevator falls down). The four little boxes at the top right of the mat area are likely for the crane legs.

Well, I'm not so sure about that. When this project was announced, we all went ape shit. I understand your point though. I think if CS wasn't sapping all the energy from us Chicagoans, you'd see a lot more posts here. Believe me, we are all anxiously awaiting the emergence of this masterpiece (I hope I didn't speak to soon). What makes this building so great is that it's designed by a Chicagoan, and therefore, it represents the well of local talent we have. The Reader ran a story about Aqua ushering in the "Third School" of Chicago architecture. My fingers are crossed. I heart Jeanne Gang.

No! I agree!! There is no other building in the world that looks like AQUA!
This is the first of its kind for design.
The CS is a twisty building, but there have been other buildings in the world that have a twist to them!
The only thing the Spire has it height with a twist.
I respect other peoples opinion, but this building, "IS" one of a kind.
