Construction tender is out for the pathway on McCarthy between Wadge and Whelan.

August 5 close date, so construction will likely start in September and they'll be paving in October and let the asphalt get good and cold so it won't compact properly and the path will have ripples like the one on Courtney. They do far too too much path construction where the paving occurs when the weather is cold. And never have the contractor fix it, even when you report it to the city right away.

First road in Eastbrook between the storm channel and Anaquod road going in. Favel Drive between Green Turtle and Buckingham. The official border between The Towns and Eastbrook is west of the brook, just west of Trombley Street.

I was just thinking that the city could use sheltered picnic areas along the bike path and in Wascana Park to get out of sun or rain. I don't know if this one by Walker School is a city or school board project.

I'm guessing the one by Walker is probably designed for an outdoor classroom. The school division has been adding outdoor spaces a lot of schools.

The PCC had tenders out for the south side of Wascana Lake for tables and picnic areas this spring.

I was wondering if the picnic shelter between the new Wascana pool and the gazebo will survive. I know the playground with it's vintage equipment is gone but it would be a shame if that shelter wasn't saved.

Tender out for AE Wilson dog park. Too bad it doesn't include a path over to Ritter Ave. It includes one around the outside of the park since the existing gravel path will be inside the park. The plan could have used far more trees for the open area to the north.

A key figure in Saskatoon's pursuit of a new downtown arena has left and is now working for the agency proposing a replacement in Regina.

Lofdahl seems like the type of person you would want to be involved in any discussions about a new facility, and that’s likely the case in his new position with REAL in Regina, where he’s now the vice-president of corporate operations.

Oddly, no officials from either SaskTel Centre or TCU Place are listed as part of Saskatoon’s advisory group on the downtown entertainment district.

Perhaps Lofdahl saw the Saskatoon effort becoming too embroiled in politics and opted to move to Regina to help that city win the arena race.
The province should help build to Similar sized Arenas to kickstart the economy

Keeping Regina Central Library's 'doors open' estimated at $50M
https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6543284

The concrete in the building is also deteriorating, asbestos is in the ceiling and there are unspecified safety issues.

Some windows are not insulated and many are installed backwards, the report says.

The central library was built to serve a population of 110,000 and Regina's population of the 2021 census is more than double that at 249,000 people.
If the Previous mayor would of did something the city would not be in the mess , the forget mayor was absolutely useless and horrible

If it's legitimately going to cost $50 million just to bring the building up to code, the money would be better spent demolishing and building new. I'm all for preserving existing buildings, but you could build a really nice new library for $50 million.

But unfortunately, I'm sure our suburb-loving anti-urban car-brain mayor and councillors will just use this report as an excuse to permanently close the central library and convert it in to a gravel Impark lot

This is the one part of the article that doesn't work. Yes, we have 249,000 people, but they aren't being served by only this main branch. We have the main branch and 8 satellite branches. (Saskatoon, by comparison, is spread over nine library locations.)

I agree the downtown library needs replaced, but I am skeptical. I think the library is going to be to the "catalyst project" what affordable housing was to the Stadium/TaylorField/Railyards (RRI). They'll suggest it as the key to selling the public on all this news sports infrastructure funding but then never actually do it.

I know the library system has a separate budget and tax from the city. Does the library have much in the way or reserves for this kind of project? Or do they need to beg the city for funding to do something like this?

RPL has about $20 million in reserves. New libraries also typically get infrastructure funding from all 3 levels of Government.
