That's factually true though.

Within the established area, we demolished more residential units in 2021 than we built.

Regina needs a new Regina bypass or a new football stadium more than we need a new full sized baseball park on some of the highest potential land the city has to offer

Don't get me wrong, if someone built a baseball stadium, I'd likely frequent it quite often. The location of the current ballpark makes it a non-starter for me as a south-ender.

That said, if a penny of tax dollars (from any level of government) goes into its construction, it's a non-starter for me. I'm already paying for a stadium that hardly gets used. I'm not about to pay for this, a hockey arena, swimming complex...

A lot of vanity projects are on council's plate. They'd better figure out where they stand on spending current and future taxpayer money.

60 % of downtown is vacant lands and even more in the near by neighbourhoods I don’t see any one rushing to build there so this is a non issue

Reap what you sowe in the riders case. I understand it was league wide and Canada wide but requiring vaccination to attend had killed the team and the league for the most part. Also should note only 6 or so teams in the NFL required proof. It's evident all across Canada when it comes to events that requir visitors to succeed. Tourism is in the tank with ZERO signs of rebounding and with a federal government doubling down on more mandates, more restrictions and most likely more other things come winter. The Tourism scene is dead in the water in this country.

It's been pretty clear that inflation/economic concerns has been the primary factor in reducing attendance...especially since there are no vaccination requirements right now, yet attendance is still an issue.

As well, vaccination rules ended up working in SK, we saw a big bump in the number of people that received them (and thus helped protect society, both public health-wise and economy-wise).

New Cargill canola processing facility breaks ground in Regina
The official ground breaking ceremony for construction at the new Cargill canola processing facility at the Global Transportation Hub (GTH) took place on Tuesday morning in Regina.
The ceremony marked the beginning of construction for the $350 million project, with Premier Scott Moe and Mayor Sandra Masters lending a hand.

Mandryk: Why Brandt/CNIB project believed it had approval intriguing
Why would Brandt now allege it had the go-ahead? Did Sask. Party politicians leave that impression?

Consider that Premier Scott Moe was telling us even after Brandt tore down the old CNIB without a permit in February 2019: “We should, in many ways, be thankful that we have a private industry that is looking to invest in our city and our province in this way.”

His predecessor, Brad Wall, was even more glowing about both the Brandt/CNIB project and Semples, having tagged Gavin Semple after the 2007 Sask. Party election to spearhead Enterprise Saskatchewan.

Of course, we don’t what was being said privately between the politicians and Brandt. We may never know.

While a lawsuit might make those conversations public, that might not happen if this messy matter never makes it to a courtroom or is settled.

We do, however, seem to know one thing: Brandt sure seemed to have its own reason for thinking the project was going ahead.

We did a stadium tour on Saturday and were told that seats will be installed over Pil Country and the south end zone to expand the capacity for Grey Cup this year.

I have definitely not heard that. In fact it's the opposite of what I've heard.

Just repeating what they told us. The two buildings in the south end zone are built to accomodate stands over top, but they are only bringing in seating to cover Pil Country.

It doesn't matter. It still doesn't make any sense to put a baseball stadium downtown. It'll take up a ton of space and be empty 99% of the time. It will just act as a giant barrier preventing any future improvements to a more walkable downtown.

If it needs to be centrally located so badly, then they can put it at the old Taylor Field location. Taylor Field was originally a baseball diamond anyways, so it would be fitting
